Boston Red Sox vs Texas Rangers Predictions: Patrick Sandoval vs Jacob deGrom

Game time: September 15, 2026 at 8:05 PM ET

Article updated Sep 15, 6:29 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Boston has the better staff numbers, but its starting pitching concerns and uncertainty over Texas's starter leave too little support for a wager.

Matchup and pitching outlook

The Boston Red Sox visit the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, with first pitch scheduled for 8:05 p.m. EDT. MLB.com confirms the matchup on its probable-pitcher schedule for the 2026 MLB season.

Boston is a -125 moneyline favorite, with Texas priced at +105. The Red Sox have the stronger overall staff results in Covers' figures: a 3.59 ERA and .242 opponents' batting average, compared with the Rangers' 4.34 ERA and .249 mark. Those numbers favor Boston in a broad comparison, but they do not establish a dependable advantage for this particular game.

MLB.com lists Boston left-hander Patrick Sandoval with a 1-5 record, 4.58 ERA and 57 strikeouts. His recent results raise concerns: Covers reports a 6.12 ERA and 1-4 record over his last five starts, with an average of five innings per outing.

Why the wager is a pass

Texas's starter remains unresolved. Covers names Cody Bradford in its matchup data, but its preview says the Rangers had not announced a starter. MLB.com also lists Texas as TBD. Bradford therefore cannot be treated as confirmed.

If Bradford starts, his recent results offer little reassurance: Covers lists an 0-5 record and 5.87 ERA over his last five starts. However, building a Boston wager around that matchup would depend on a pitching assignment that remains uncertain.

The total is 8.5, with over 8.5 (+110) and under 8.5 (-130). The starters' recent struggles alone do not establish value on the over, particularly while Texas's assignment is unsettled. Boston's better staff figures provide some support, but Sandoval's form weakens the case. The recommendation is Pass, with no selected winner or projected score.
