Minnesota Twins vs Los Angeles Angels Predictions: Connor Prielipp vs Grayson Rodriguez

Game time: September 18, 2026 at 9:38 PM ET

Article updated Sep 18, 12:44 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Rodriguez has the better displayed five-start ERA, but Prielipp's season advantage complicates the case for backing Los Angeles.

Season numbers and recent starts tell different stories

The Minnesota Twins visit the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium on September 18, 2026, in an MLB matchup. MLB.com lists left-hander Connor Prielipp and right-hander Grayson Rodriguez as the probable starters.

Prielipp carries a 5.24 season ERA with 117 strikeouts, compared with Rodriguez's 6.10 ERA and 79 strikeouts. Minnesota also has the stronger overall record at 71-81; Los Angeles is 58-94. Those figures provide context for the Twins' favored price, but do not establish betting value.

The displayed five-start samples at Covers point the other way. Rodriguez has a 4.39 ERA, averaging 3.0 runs and 2.6 earned runs allowed per start. Prielipp has a 7.76 ERA, averaging 4.6 runs and 4.6 earned runs. That gives Rodriguez the stronger recent run-prevention case, despite his weaker season ERA.

Individual outings add caution. Rodriguez surrendered five earned runs, four walks and two home runs in four innings against Boston on September 7. Prielipp allowed three earned runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings against Oakland on August 26. Neither example supports treating the recent ERA comparison as decisive.

Neither the side nor total offers a supported edge

SportsJaw prices Minnesota's moneyline at -128 and Los Angeles's moneyline at +107. The available information does not establish current offensive production against either starter's handedness, confirmed lineups or bullpen availability. That limits the case for paying Minnesota's price or taking the Angels as an underdog.

The total is 8.5, with over 8.5 at -102 and under 8.5 at -120. The pitching numbers raise scoring concerns, but without supporting offensive and relief-pitching evidence, they do not establish an advantage on the over. There is no supported under case either.

The selection is Pass, with no winner or score projection. The conflicting pitching signals and missing matchup context leave too little support for a side or total recommendation.
