Arizona's pitching advantage is the strongest starting point for its September 22, 2026 MLB matchup at Colorado. Those results provide a positive finish to that series, although the Diamondbacks' 4-6 record over their last 10 games keeps the broader recent picture mixed.
The season scoring numbers also temper enthusiasm. Arizona has averaged 4.44 runs scored and 4.45 allowed per game. Its superior record is relevant, but those nearly identical averages do not describe a team routinely separating itself from opponents. Against San Diego on September 15, he allowed eight hits, three earned runs and three homers in four innings, striking out one. His recent record therefore supports a meaningful counterargument to Arizona's favoritism, alongside considerable uncertainty.
Arizona's relievers have a 3.86 ERA and 1.19 WHIP, compared with Colorado's 4.86 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. Both measures favor the Diamondbacks if the decision rests with the bullpens. They describe season performance, however, and do not establish which relievers are rested enough to pitch in this game.
Arizona has Ryan Thompson on the 60-day injured list with a lower-back strain and A.J. Puk on the 60-day injured list with an elbow injury.
