Houston Rockets vs Dallas Mavericks Predictions Today

Game time: October 30, 2026 at 8:00 PM ET

Venue: American Airlines Center — Dallas, TX

Article updated Oct 30, 8:21 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

The Houston Rockets will beat the Dallas Mavericks, Rockets 116, Mavericks 112, in our forecast for Oct. 30. Houston’s plus-14.2 scoring margin through five games supplies the strongest reason to favor the visitors. However, Alperen Sengun’s questionable status and Dallas’ recent improvement make laying Houston -6 (-110) unattractive. Neither that spread nor the total of 226.5 (-110) earns an official wager.

Houston Rockets vs Dallas Mavericks prediction and best bet

Houston gets the winner pick because its opening results offer the stronger overall case. The Rockets are 5-0, averaging 123.0 points and allowing 108.8. They also beat Dallas 128-110 in the Oct. 21 season opener. Those results favor Houston, although repeating that margin on the road is a separate proposition.

Dallas brings a credible response after beating Oklahoma City 120-96 on Oct. 28. Sengun’s uncertain availability further narrows the gap between picking Houston to win and trusting it to cover six points. Our forecast is Rockets 116, Mavericks 112, with low confidence. The best betting decision is Pass, with the spread and total each carrying meaningful uncertainty.

Houston Rockets outlook

Houston’s scoring and defensive results both favor the visitors. Through five games, the Rockets have a plus-14.2 average differential, with 123.0 points scored against 108.8 allowed. That is an encouraging opening stretch, but five games offer only an early reading of the team’s level. The average margin also should not be mistaken for a record of covering spreads.

The Rockets are shooting 40.4 percent from three and making 13.0 per game. Opponents have made 11.8 threes per game at 28.9 percent. Those percentages strengthen Houston’s case, although they do not explain how much comes from defensive execution or opponents missing shots. Projecting the same shooting gap into this rematch would be aggressive.

Sengun is the central personnel concern. He has averaged 24.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists in four games. The NBA’s 6:00 a.m. injury report lists him as questionable with low-back soreness. Marcus Smart is questionable with a left forearm strain. Steven Adams is out with a right soleus strain, and Reed Sheppard is out with low-back soreness. With that much uncertainty, Houston’s strong opening averages are a starting point for the forecast rather than a guarantee of its offensive output.

Dallas Mavericks outlook

Dallas enters with a smaller positive scoring margin: 114.0 points scored and 112.0 allowed per game through five games. The Mavericks are making 13.2 threes per game at 34.6 percent. Their opponents are making 11.2 at 30.6 percent, so Houston is not the only team whose early defensive results include low opposing three-point accuracy.

Cooper Flagg supplies the strongest individual scoring evidence for Dallas. He has averaged 25.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists in four appearances. He scored 32 in the opening loss to Houston, then delivered 26 points, five rebounds and eight assists against Oklahoma City. P.J. Washington averages 16.0 points and 7.8 rebounds through five games; Kyrie Irving averages 18.0 points through four.

The Oklahoma City win also featured a 43-19 bench scoring advantage. Caleb Martin contributed 10 points in his season debut and is available with a right-thumb splint. Naji Marshall remains questionable with illness after missing two games. Dereck Lively II and Sergio de Larrea are out, while Santi Aldama and Tarik Biberovic are doubtful. Dallas therefore has its own availability concerns, but the recent bench contribution gives the home side a concrete counterargument to Houston’s stronger overall start.

Key matchup factors

The biggest forecasting question is how much weight to give the first meeting. Houston’s 18-point win is relevant evidence against this opponent, but it came at Toyota Center. Dallas now hosts the rematch, and Sengun’s status adds uncertainty to any expectation of a repeat.

Three-point shooting is another potential swing factor. Houston owns the higher offensive percentage, while both teams have benefited from low opposing percentages across five games. Neither trend should be treated as fixed.

SportsJaw’s Oct. 30 consensus update lists Houston -6 (-110) as the community leader at 83 percent and the qualified-handicapper leader at 80 percent. Those are pick shares, not Houston’s win probability or confidence in covering.

Houston Rockets vs Dallas Mavericks spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Houston -6 (-110) and Dallas +6 (-110). Houston’s scoring margin and opening win explain the appeal of the favorite. However, Sengun’s uncertain status is material when the wager requires a victory by more than six points.

Our four-point projected margin falls on Dallas’ side of the spread, but that alone is too thin a reason to back the Mavericks. Houston has already shown it can win this matchup decisively, while Dallas has several injury concerns of its own. The forecast favors a closer game without identifying a reliable spread edge.

Houston Rockets vs Dallas Mavericks total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 226.5 (-110) and Under 226.5 (-110). The projected 228 points sit slightly above the line. The first meeting produced 238 points, and Houston’s 123.0 scoring average gives the Over a reasonable starting argument.

Sengun’s questionable status cuts into that argument, while both teams’ early opposing three-point percentages warrant caution about projecting scoring. SportsJaw’s community and qualified-handicapper leaders each favor Over 226.5 (-110) at 67 percent. That agreement reflects preference, not an independent scoring estimate. A projected edge of 1.5 points is insufficient here.

Houston Rockets vs Dallas Mavericks projected score

Game forecast: Rockets 116, Mavericks 112. Houston’s unbeaten start, stronger scoring differential and first-meeting victory make it the winner selection. The projection gives Dallas a more competitive performance at home while keeping Houston ahead on the strength of its broader opening results.

The strongest counterargument is the combination of Dallas’ 24-point win over Oklahoma City and uncertainty surrounding Sengun, whose production includes seven assists per game. Houston could have a different offensive outlook depending on his availability. That keeps confidence low despite a clear winner selection. The spread recommendation is Pass, the total recommendation is Pass, and the single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
