Pitt defeated Miami 71-68 on Saturday afternoon, losing outright as a 1.5-point favorite the previous day. Following a seven-game skid, Virginia Tech avenged a road loss to Syracuse by beating the Orange at home Saturday. Despite a 3-7 conference record, the Hokies are 13-8 overall and 12th in the conference. Virginia Tech took an 18-10 lead seven minutes into the game against Syracuse after a 9-0 run. In the second half, the Hokies led 52-33 and never let the lead slip below 14 throughout the game. As a team, Virginia Tech shot 53.3% from the field, including 13 of 32 from three-point range, and won the rebounding battle 37-26. Grant Basilele led the Hokies with 25 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.
Regrouping at home is a priority for the Miami Hurricanes
After having chances against Pitt, Miami let things slip through their fingers and ended up losing on the road. With a 7-4 record entering this game, the Hurricanes are 16-5 overall and tied for fifth in the conference. In the first half, Miami led Pitt by as many as 11 points and was ahead by five points at halftime. A 11-0 run with 2:28 remaining allowed the Hurricanes to lose 68-60 after being ahead by 11 with 12:13 left to play. As a result, Miami shot 49.1% from the field, including eight of 17 three-pointers, and lost the rebounding battle 39-30. Jordan Miller led Miami with 18 points and four assists.
