Bellarmine Knights vs Vanderbilt Commodores Betting Picks & Predictions

Game time: November 2, 2026 at 7:00 PM ET

Venue: Memorial Gymnasium (TN) — Nashville, TN

Article updated Nov 2, 8:42 AM EST

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Vanderbilt will beat Bellarmine, with a projected score of Vanderbilt 91, Bellarmine 62. Tyler Tanner's returning scoring and playmaking give the Commodores the strongest advantage against a team replacing its two leading scorers. The supplied prices offer no compelling wager: Vanderbilt -32.5 demands a bigger margin than this forecast, while the evidence behind Bellarmine's cover chances and total 158.5 remains mixed.

Bellarmine Knights vs Vanderbilt Commodores prediction and best bet

Vanderbilt is the pick to win this 2026-27 men's college basketball opener. Tanner returns after averaging 19.5 points, 5.1 assists and 2.4 steals for a team that finished 27-9 and earned a No. 5 NCAA Tournament seed. Bellarmine brings back experienced players, but replacing Jack Karasinski and Brian Waddell creates a substantial scoring challenge.

The official betting recommendation is Pass. Bellarmine +32.5 (-110) fits the projected 29-point margin, but that narrow cushion rests on an uncertain opening-night forecast. Vanderbilt's defensive problems in its Miami exhibition make laying the points uncomfortable, too. The total deserves a separate assessment, with neither direction offering a sufficiently persuasive case at 158.5.

SportsJaw spreads: Bellarmine +32.5 (-110); Vanderbilt -32.5 (-110). Total: Over 158.5 (-110) or Under 158.5 (-110). This season opener is the programs' first meeting.

Bellarmine Knights outlook

Bellarmine returns eight players and was picked fourth in the ASUN preseason coaches poll. Kenyon Goodin started all 31 games last season, averaging 11.6 points and 2.8 rebounds while shooting 48.5%. Tyler Doyle started 23 of his 26 appearances and averaged 10.0 points on 52.5% shooting. Sam Donald started 29 of 30 games as a freshman. That experience gives the Knights familiar options as they begin three consecutive road games.

The departures are the larger concern. Bellarmine led Division I in field-goal percentage at 52.1% last season, but lost its top two scorers and rebounders. Karasinski averaged 21.7 points and shot 41.5% from three before transferring to Northwestern. Waddell averaged 15.0 points and 4.3 rebounds. Last year's team shooting percentage therefore offers useful background, rather than a dependable expectation for this lineup.

Transfers Julius Gizzi and Tucker Tornatta add possible replacements. Gizzi averaged 12.1 points at Indiana Wesleyan; Tornatta averaged 3.3 points and 2.2 rebounds at Valparaiso. Their previous production gives Bellarmine options, but how those pieces fit remains central to the forecast. Goodin and Doyle's efficiency is encouraging; sustaining it with the departed scorers gone is the immediate test.

Vanderbilt Commodores outlook

No. 24 Vanderbilt has a proven offensive centerpiece in Tanner. He ranked fourth in the SEC in scoring last season and added 3.6 rebounds per game alongside his assists and steals. His combination of scoring and distribution is the strongest reason to expect the Commodores to control this matchup. It gives Vanderbilt a returning focal point while Bellarmine reorganizes around its remaining contributors.

Friday's 109-96 exhibition loss at No. 14 Miami supplies a meaningful caution. Tanner scored 10 points on 3-for-10 shooting, and Miami shot 58% overall. Vanderbilt's scoring output was encouraging, but its defense allowed enough clean production to make a huge opening-night margin harder to trust. One exhibition should carry less weight than a full season, although it is relevant evidence against an aggressive spread recommendation.

Ace Glass scored 19 points and Chandler Bing added 18 against Miami. Vanderbilt's additions include Glass from Washington State, Berke Buyuktuncel from Nebraska, T.O. Barrett from Missouri and Bangot Dak from Colorado. Barrett and Gabe Nesmith missed the exhibition but warmed up. The Associated Press preview reported that they were expected to be available against Bellarmine; their participation was not confirmed.

Key matchup factors

Returning production matters more here than simply comparing last year's records. Vanderbilt retains Tanner's scoring and playmaking, while Bellarmine must replace two major sources of points. That difference favors the Commodores, but their exhibition defense gives the Knights a plausible route to enough offense to keep the margin below 33.

SportsJaw members favored Bellarmine +32.5 (-110) and Under 158.5 (-110), each with 100% community support. The spread update was November 2 at 07:58 UTC; the total update was at 07:53 UTC. Those are member preferences, not sportsbook betting shares or win probabilities. They align with the projected score, but add no independent performance evidence to the wagering case.

Bellarmine Knights vs Vanderbilt Commodores spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Bellarmine +32.5 (-110) and Vanderbilt -32.5 (-110). The projected 29-point Vanderbilt win falls on Bellarmine's side of the line, but the difference is too small to inspire a bet given the roster changes.

Bellarmine's returning experience and Vanderbilt's exhibition defense favor taking the points. The Knights' lost scoring production cuts the other way and could leave them struggling to keep pace. Vanderbilt needs a margin of at least 33 to cover. Its stronger winning case alone is insufficient reason to demand that much separation.

Bellarmine Knights vs Vanderbilt Commodores total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 158.5 (-110) and Under 158.5 (-110). The projected score totals 153 points, giving the forecast an Under orientation without enough conviction to make it the official wager.

Bellarmine's departures could reduce its scoring, but Vanderbilt's Miami exhibition raises questions about how much resistance the Knights will encounter. Vanderbilt also scored 96 despite Tanner's modest output. Those competing signals matter more than the projection's 5.5-point gap below the line. Neither one exhibition nor last season's Bellarmine shooting percentage is a dependable scoring baseline for these revised teams.

Bellarmine Knights vs Vanderbilt Commodores Projected Score & Betting Picks

Game forecast: Vanderbilt 91, Bellarmine 62. Confidence is medium in the winner selection. Tanner's returning production, the home setting and Vanderbilt's stronger previous season support an ordinary, credible edge. The exact margin and combined score are less secure.

The strongest counterargument to a comfortable Vanderbilt win is its defensive showing against Miami, particularly with Goodin and Doyle returning after efficient shooting seasons. Bellarmine still faces a substantial replacement job, which keeps the winner call with the Commodores. The forecast favors Bellarmine against the spread and points below the total, but neither margin offers enough assurance at the supplied prices. The single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
