Houston Cougars vs Kansas St. Wildcats Predictions October 10, 2026

Game time: October 10, 2026 at 3:30 PM ET

Venue: Bill Snyder Family Stadium — Manhattan, KS

Article updated Oct 5, 11:50 PM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Kansas State will beat Houston, with a projected score of Kansas State 27, Houston 24. The Wildcats’ disruptive defensive front and strong pass protection give them a narrow advantage, but Houston’s third-down efficiency and Conner Weigman’s running make this a low-confidence forecast. Neither Kansas State -2.5 (-115) nor the total of 56.5 (-110) offers a strong enough edge for an official wager.

Houston Cougars vs Kansas St. Wildcats prediction and best bet

Kansas State gets the nod because its strengths extend to both lines of scrimmage. The Wildcats produced 37 tackles for loss through four games while allowing no sacks on offense. That combination gives them a plausible route to disrupting Houston’s possessions without repeatedly putting their own offense behind schedule.

The official betting decision is Pass. Houston brings enough resistance to make laying 2.5 points uncomfortable, and a three-point projected margin leaves very little room at Kansas State -2.5 (-115). Picking the Wildcats to win is easier than trusting them to deliver a profitable spread result.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Game time: Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. Central Time for this college football matchup.

Venue: Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kansas.

Broadcast: FOX.

SportsJaw spread: Houston +2.5 (-105); Kansas State -2.5 (-115).

SportsJaw moneyline: Houston +115; Kansas State -135.

SportsJaw total: Over 56.5 (-110); Under 56.5 (-110).

Houston Cougars outlook

Houston’s 27-17 victory over UCF on Oct. 3 demonstrated both its recovery ability and the danger of needing one. The Cougars trailed 17-0 late in the third quarter before rallying. Another deficit of that size would put considerable pressure on their offense against Kansas State.

Weigman supplied three rushing touchdowns, a personal best. His 19-yard touchdown run with 3:38 left in the third quarter started Houston’s scoring. Kansas State coach Collin Klein praised his ball security, efficiency and ability to extend possessions as both a runner and passer.

Houston’s defense made the comeback possible. UCF managed 48 total yards and minus-6 rushing yards in the fourth quarter. Its final five possessions produced an interception, two three-and-outs and two turnovers on downs. That finish is encouraging, though it should not be treated as a prediction of four quarters in Manhattan.

Kansas St. Wildcats outlook

Kansas State returns from its lone 2026 bye following a 31-26 loss at Cincinnati. Through four games, the Wildcats allowed 106.3 passing yards per game, ranked first nationally in their matchup preview. They also averaged 3.00 sacks, with Wendell Gregory and Darien Whitaker Jr. contributing 2.5 apiece.

The offensive protection gives Kansas State another reason for optimism. Alongside the clean sack record, the Wildcats converted 39 of 60 third downs, or 65.0%. Those figures suggest an offense capable of sustaining possessions, even if Houston makes the rushing game difficult.

Klein’s Oct. 5 personnel update included a season-ending lower-leg injury for tight end Will Anciaux. He said receiver Jaron Tibbs had progressed well and would be fine. Offensive lineman Oliver Miller remained day-to-day, with snaps possible if his progress continued; the backup-quarterback situation was also day-to-day.

Key matchup factors

The critical question is whether Kansas State can force Houston into difficult third downs. The Wildcats’ preview listed Houston first nationally at 65.5% conversion efficiency. Weigman’s mobility gives the Cougars another way to sustain a drive when a passing play breaks down, complicating the assignment for Kansas State’s rush.

Klein also described Houston as a top-10 rushing defense. If that strength carries into this game, Kansas State may need its protection and third-down execution to compensate. Neither defense has an uncomplicated matchup against an offense capable of extending possessions.

SportsJaw’s blended moneyline consensus favored Houston +115 at 86% as of Oct. 6 at 03:37 UTC. The accompanying modeled equivalent sample was 516 Houston selections and 84 Kansas State selections, totaling 600. Those modeled counts are not observed sportsbook tickets, and the consensus percentage is not Houston’s win probability. It signals backing for the underdog, rather than proving a betting edge.

Houston Cougars vs Kansas St. Wildcats spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Kansas State -2.5 (-115) and Houston +2.5 (-105). The projected three-point Kansas State victory would cover the favorite’s spread, but only narrowly. That small cushion is too fragile to make the favorite an official wager.

Houston’s case rests on its offensive efficiency and ability to challenge Kansas State on the ground defensively. Those strengths make an upset believable, but a close game alone is not enough to recommend Houston: a three-point defeat still loses at +2.5.

Houston Cougars vs Kansas St. Wildcats total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 56.5 (-110) and Under 56.5 (-110). The projected 51 points favor an Under outcome, with Kansas State’s pass defense and Houston’s rushing defense offering plausible ways to limit scoring.

Both teams’ third-down efficiency is the strongest counterargument. Sustained drives can turn defensive resistance into scoring opportunities, while Weigman’s running offers another route to touchdowns. The defensive case is credible, but the scoring forecast remains too uncertain to justify an Under wager.

Houston Cougars vs Kansas St. Wildcats projected score

Game forecast: Kansas State 27, Houston 24. The Wildcats’ defensive disruption and offensive protection earn the narrow selection. Houston’s third-down production and mobile quarterback are the strongest reasons that forecast could fail.

Confidence: Low. This is a slight matchup lean with meaningful strengths on both sides. Kansas State is the projected winner; the spread and total are separate passes. Official SportsJaw wager: Pass.
