Kansas Jayhawks vs Utah Running Utes Predictions October 10, 2026

Game time: October 10, 2026 at 10:15 PM ET

Venue: Rice-Eccles Stadium — Salt Lake City, UT

Article updated Oct 6, 12:04 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Utah will beat Kansas 31-20, with Devon Dampier’s passing efficiency and the Utes’ strong run defense providing the clearest matchup advantages. Kansas brings enough defensive resistance to complicate Utah’s task at -15.5 (-110), however. Neither that spread nor the total of 52 (-110) offers a convincing betting edge, making Pass the official SportsJaw recommendation.

Kansas Jayhawks vs Utah Running Utes prediction and best bet

Utah is the pick to win because its offensive production comes with a defense suited to challenging Kansas’ recent rushing success. The Utes have averaged 491.0 yards per game while allowing 84.0 rushing yards per game. That combination gives them a credible route to controlling this matchup.

Winning and covering are separate questions at Utah -15.5 (-110). Kansas leads the Big 12 in total defense, allowing 244.8 yards per game, and presents a meaningful obstacle to a runaway result. The forecast favors Utah by 11 points, but the margin is less secure than the outright selection. The best betting decision is Pass.

Kansas Jayhawks outlook

Kansas delivered a dominant performance against Middle Tennessee on October 3, winning 55-0 with a school-record 706 total yards. The Jayhawks rushed for 480 yards and allowed only 136 total yards. That was an emphatic result, although projecting the same offensive freedom against Utah would be a substantial leap.

Dylan Edwards supplied 137 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries. Quarterback Isaiah Marshall contributed 110 rushing yards on 11 attempts and completed 13 of 22 passes for 161 yards and a touchdown. Their ground production gives Kansas a plausible way to sustain possessions, provided it can find room against Utah.

The defensive personnel also matter. Trey Lathan had 22 tackles in the reported early-season window, while Leroy Harris III recorded seven tackles for loss and three forced fumbles in three games. Disruption from Harris could help Kansas interrupt drives before Utah’s offensive efficiency becomes decisive.

Utah Running Utes outlook

Dampier gives Utah the more persuasive offensive foundation. Through four games, he had 896 passing yards and nine touchdown passes. Utah’s preview listed his completion percentage at 70.3 percent and his Big 12-leading passing efficiency at 172.2. He also contributed 135 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns, according to Kansas Athletics.

Wayshawn Parker adds production as both a runner and receiver. He had five rushing touchdowns and four receiving touchdowns through four games, averaging 6.56 yards per carry. In the September 26 victory at Iowa State, he delivered 239 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns as Utah won 31-17.

Utah’s defense is just as relevant to the prediction. The Utes lead the Big 12 in scoring defense at 10.3 points allowed per game. They have also surrendered only seven passing plays of at least 20 yards, making explosive gains another challenge for Kansas.

Key matchup factors

The pivotal question is whether Kansas can turn its rushing production into repeatable gains against this opponent. Successful runs would help keep Marshall out of difficult passing situations. If Utah limits those gains, Kansas could have trouble matching an offense with productive options through the air and on the ground.

Kansas’ defensive yardage ranking is the strongest reason to resist predicting a blowout. It points toward meaningful resistance, but yardage allowed and points allowed measure different things. Kansas’ lead in one category and Utah’s lead in the other should not be treated as interchangeable advantages.

The SportsJaw blended spread display labels Kansas +15.5 (-110) as the leader at 50 percent, updated October 6 at 03:59 UTC. That percentage represents an even split, not a directional consensus advantage or a probability that Kansas will cover.

Kansas Jayhawks vs Utah Running Utes spread prediction

Pass on Kansas +15.5 (-110) and Utah -15.5 (-110). The projected score falls on the Kansas side, and its defensive performance makes taking the points tempting. Still, the Jayhawks’ most recent rushing success came against Middle Tennessee, while Utah presents a direct challenge to that approach.

Utah’s scoring ability creates the opposite risk: Kansas could defend reasonably well and still lose touch if its offense stalls. An 11-point forecast expresses a likely game shape, but the evidence leaves too much uncertainty around Kansas’ scoring contribution to make the underdog an official wager.

Kansas Jayhawks vs Utah Running Utes total prediction

Pass on Over 52 (-110) and Under 52 (-110). Utah has averaged 43.3 points and extended its streak of scoring at least 30 to 10 games, dating to 2025. That sustained scoring makes an Under bet uncomfortable despite the defensive strengths on both sides.

The 31-20 projection totals 51 points, just one below the supplied line. That narrow difference offers little protection against a single additional scoring play. Kansas’ recent offensive outburst adds uncertainty, while Utah’s scoring defense argues against assuming another high-output afternoon from the Jayhawks.

Kansas Jayhawks vs Utah Running Utes projected score

Game forecast: Utah 31, Kansas 20. Dampier’s efficiency, Parker’s versatility and Utah’s resistance against the run give the Utes the stronger path to victory. Kansas’ conference-leading total defense is the clearest counterargument and keeps the projected margin below the spread.

Confidence is medium in the Utah victory forecast. The precise margin and combined score are less dependable. Both the spread and total recommendations are Pass, and the single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
