Arizona at BYU: Strong Openers, but No Clear Betting Edge

Matchup and opening form

The Arizona Wildcats visit the No. 15 BYU Cougars in Provo on September 12, 2026, for a Big 12 college football matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. MDT. Both teams enter 1-0 in the 2026 season.

BYU beat Utah Tech 63-7 while rushing for 308 yards. LJ Martin contributed 54 yards on seven carries after leading the Big 12 with 1,305 rushing yards last season. Quarterback Bear Bachmeier produced three passing touchdowns and another on the ground.

Arizona defeated Northern Arizona 35-7 and allowed minus-7 rushing yards. Noah Fifita threw two touchdown passes. Those results establish a compelling matchup between BYU’s ground attack and Arizona’s run defense, but one opening performance apiece does not establish how either unit will fare against this opponent.

Availability remains part of the picture

The September 9 availability reports listed BYU starting safety Raider Damuni and running back Sione Moa out, linebacker Pierson Watson doubtful, and linebacker Isaiah Glasker probable. Arizona listed linebacker Everett Roussaw Jr., safety Dajon Hinton and defensive lineman Ezra Funa out, with linebacker Myron Robinson questionable.

Those designations should be read as the reported statuses at that time. Deseret News reported that a final availability report would be released 90 minutes before kickoff; that final update is not provided here.

Odds and decision

BYU is -290 on the moneyline and -7.5 (-110) against the spread. Arizona is +240 outright and +7.5 (-110). Over 48.5 (-110) and Under 48.5 (-110) are the total options.

The opening results and reported absences do not support a reliable winning margin or total projection. Arizona’s defensive opener alone does not justify taking the points, and BYU’s scoring output alone does not justify laying them. SportsJaw’s decision is Pass, with no winner or projected score selected.
