Washington Huskies vs Purdue Boilermakers Predictions October 16, 2026

Game time: October 16, 2026 at 8:00 PM ET

Venue: Ross-Ade Stadium — West Lafayette, IN

Article updated Oct 12, 11:51 PM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Purdue will beat Washington 30-24, with Fame Ijeboi’s rushing production giving the Boilermakers the strongest matchup advantage against a defense that struggled against Iowa. Purdue -3.5 (-110) is the best bet, supported by that rushing matchup and Purdue’s latest defensive performance. Confidence is medium because Washington showed a credible passing response after its quarterback injury. The total of 52.5 is a Pass.

Washington Huskies vs Purdue Boilermakers prediction and best bet

Purdue’s advantage starts on the ground. The Boilermakers rushed for 305 yards against Minnesota on Oct. 10, while Washington surrendered 263 rushing yards to Iowa the previous night. Those performances favor Purdue in the matchup most likely to shape this game, although different opponents make the comparison an indicator rather than a direct measure of the gap.

The best bet is spread: Purdue -3.5 (-110). A productive rushing attack offers a reasonable route to winning by at least four points. Washington’s passing response against Iowa keeps the projected margin competitive, so this is an ordinary edge with medium confidence.

Washington Huskies outlook

Washington lost 41-24 to Iowa in Seattle on Oct. 9, its second consecutive defeat against a ranked opponent. The Huskies finished with 317 total yards and minus-3 rushing yards. That result puts pressure on their ability to find offensive balance, but it should not be treated as a season-long description of their rushing offense.

Demond Williams Jr. left that game with an injury in the first half. Washington’s recap supplied no return timetable, leaving his availability uncertain. Elijah Brown responded by completing 28 of 39 passes for 251 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. His performance gives Washington a credible passing option if Williams cannot return.

Chris Lawson contributed eight catches for 86 yards and a touchdown against Iowa. That production is the strongest reason to resist writing off Washington’s offense. The more troubling result came on defense: Iowa gained 465 total yards, including its substantial rushing output. Washington needs a better performance up front to keep Purdue from setting favorable down-and-distance situations.

Purdue Boilermakers outlook

Purdue beat Minnesota 41-13 on Oct. 10 at Ross-Ade Stadium, gaining 458 total yards while allowing 273. Minnesota managed only 27 rushing yards and 10 first downs. Both sides of the ball contributed to that result, giving the Boilermakers more than an offensive scoring surge to carry into this forecast.

Ijeboi rushed 31 times for 195 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Through six games, the sophomore had 549 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns. Purdue’s Oct. 12 report ranked him second in the Big Ten in rushing yards and fifth nationally in rushing touchdowns.

His 48 forced missed tackles also led the nation, according to that report. That makes tackling a central challenge for Washington. Ryan Browne supplied another rushing threat against Minnesota with 81 yards and a touchdown, alongside 14 completions on 24 attempts for 159 passing yards and one touchdown.

Key matchup factors

Washington must account for both Purdue rushing threats without making passing situations easier for Browne. Ijeboi’s missed-tackle production suggests that simply reaching the ball carrier may not be enough. Finishing tackles early in a series would give the Huskies a better chance to force Purdue away from its most productive recent approach.

The counterweight is Washington’s ability to score through the air. Brown’s relief performance showed that the offense could still generate touchdowns after losing Williams. If that efficiency carries forward, Purdue could win while leaving the spread unsettled late.

The balanced spread consensus reinforces that distinction. Strong moneyline support for Purdue expresses a preference for the winner; it does not independently validate a cover. Neither consensus percentage measures the confidence of this forecast.

Washington Huskies vs Purdue Boilermakers spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Purdue -3.5 (-110). The case rests on Purdue’s established production from Ijeboi, Browne’s additional rushing contribution and the contrasting defensive results from the teams’ latest games. Together, those factors make a win beyond a field goal a reasonable expectation.

Washington +3.5 (-110) remains dangerous because Brown demonstrated enough passing efficiency to keep the Huskies competitive. The projection favors Purdue by six points, leaving a modest cushion rather than suggesting a runaway. That margin reflects the matchup assessment; merely projecting a cover would not, by itself, justify the wager.

Washington Huskies vs Purdue Boilermakers total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 52.5 (-105) and Under 52.5 (-115). The projected 54 points sits slightly above the line, but that small difference is too fragile for an Over recommendation.

Purdue’s latest game produced 54 combined points, and Washington’s produced 65. Those results keep the Over plausible, while Purdue’s defensive performance against Minnesota offers a competing reason for restraint. Washington’s quarterback uncertainty adds another variable. Rushing success alone also says too little about possession count or scoring efficiency to make the Under attractive.

Washington Huskies vs Purdue Boilermakers projected score

Game forecast: Purdue 30, Washington 24. Purdue’s rushing personnel and recent defensive success earn the edge. Washington’s effective passing against Iowa is the strongest counterargument and the reason to expect a competitive game.

Confidence: medium. The recent performances favor Purdue, but they came against different opponents, and Washington’s quarterback situation remains uncertain. The single official SportsJaw wager is spread: Purdue -3.5 (-110). The total of 52.5 is a Pass.
