Holy Cross Crusaders vs William & Mary Tribe Predictions October 3, 2026

Game time: October 3, 2026 at 3:30 PM ET

Venue: Walter J. Zable Stadium — Williamsburg, VA

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

William & Mary will beat Holy Cross, 27-20, in our forecast for October 3. Winston Watkins’ conference-leading passing efficiency and the Tribe’s run of scoring at least 20 points in 13 of 14 games give William & Mary the edge. Lynch’s recent touchdown production makes this a low-confidence pick, however, and neither the supplied spread nor total offers an actionable wager.

Holy Cross Crusaders vs William & Mary Tribe prediction and best bet

William & Mary gets the nod because Watkins’ 150.1 passing efficiency and the Tribe’s broader scoring record offer reasons to expect a rebound. Their seven-point performance at Duke is a concern, but it sits alongside 13 games with at least 20 points across their previous 14 outings.

Holy Cross brings a credible challenge after David Lynch threw four touchdowns without an interception in a 38-30 win at Lafayette. That performance makes a comfortable home victory difficult to trust.

The best bet is Pass. Our seven-point projected margin would cover William & Mary -5.5 (-125), but the cushion is small. The projected 47 points also falls below 49.5 without creating a convincing Under wager.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Kickoff: Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Venue: Zable Stadium in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Broadcast: ESPN+.

Records: Holy Cross is 1-4 overall; William & Mary is 2-3. Both are 1-2 in Patriot League play.

SportsJaw spreads: Holy Cross +5.5 (-135); William & Mary -5.5 (-125). Moneylines: Holy Cross +168; William & Mary -220. Total: Over 49.5 (-127) or Under 49.5 (-127).

Holy Cross Crusaders outlook

Holy Cross earned its first win on September 26, beating Lafayette 38-30 behind an efficient scoring performance from Lynch. He completed 22 of 37 passes for 230 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. Lincoln Fisher contributed 105 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Ty Curran added 43 yards and two scores.

The offense also sustained possessions. Holy Cross finished with 351 total yards, 23 first downs and 35:23 with the ball. Repeating that possession pattern would help the Crusaders limit the opportunities Watkins gets, although one successful afternoon is a narrow foundation for projecting another.

Entering this matchup, Lynch averages 218.4 passing yards per game and has eight touchdown passes. Fisher has 16 catches for 274 yards and four touchdowns, while Joseph Williams averages 53.2 rushing yards. The passing connection between Lynch and Fisher is the clearest reason to give this offense a chance.

Defensively, Holy Cross recorded six pass breakups, an interception and a fourth-down stop against Lafayette, yet still allowed 30 points. Those stops mattered in the victory. Against William & Mary, the question is whether the Crusaders can combine those disruptive moments with fewer scoring opportunities.

William & Mary Tribe outlook

William & Mary returns home after a 62-7 loss at Duke on September 26. The Tribe gained 170 yards and allowed 638, a substantial warning against treating the home favorite as a comfortable selection. Their rushing offense produced only 17 yards, and they converted three of 13 third downs.

Watkins nevertheless enters this game first in the Patriot League in passing efficiency at 150.1 and third in total offense at 205.8 yards per game. Those rankings give the forecast a broader foundation than the Duke result alone. William & Mary also ranks second in the conference at 22.2 points per game.

Khylil Johnson supplies a threat for longer gains. He ranks sixth nationally at 22.21 yards per catch and caught three passes for 92 yards against Duke, including a 63-yard reception. Watkins completed 10 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown in that game.

On defense, Harrison Johnson ranks 13th nationally with 9.8 tackles per game. Christopher Higgins made 12 tackles, including one for loss, against Duke. Those individual contributions are useful, but the unit’s immediate assignment is more demanding: contain a Holy Cross passing game coming off four touchdown throws.

Key matchup factors

The central matchup is Watkins against a Holy Cross defense that conceded 30 points in its latest outing despite several important stops. Khylil Johnson’s production on longer receptions gives William & Mary a way to generate scoring chances without having to sustain every possession through repeated third downs.

Possession is the counterweight. Holy Cross held the ball for 35:23 against Lafayette, while William & Mary struggled to extend drives at Duke. If those patterns carry over, the Crusaders could keep the margin tight.

These results came against different opponents, so the raw scores deserve caution. Watkins’ season efficiency tips the forecast toward the Tribe; Lynch’s latest performance keeps confidence low.

Holy Cross Crusaders vs William & Mary Tribe spread prediction

Pass on William & Mary -5.5 (-125) and Holy Cross +5.5 (-135). The projected seven-point victory puts the Tribe just 1.5 points beyond the favorite’s cover threshold. A change in one scoring possession could erase that cushion.

Holy Cross has a plausible route to staying inside the spread through Lynch’s passing and sustained drives. William & Mary has a plausible route to separation through Watkins and Johnson. With both cases credible, neither side earns a wager at its supplied price. Picking the Tribe to win is easier than backing their winning margin.

Holy Cross Crusaders vs William & Mary Tribe total prediction

Pass on both Over 49.5 (-127) and Under 49.5 (-127). Our projection totals 47 points, putting it 2.5 below the line, but that difference is too fragile to justify an Under bet.

Holy Cross’s latest game combined productive passing with 30 points conceded. William & Mary’s longer scoring record favors a recovery from its seven-point outing, while its 17 rushing yards and third-down struggles at Duke show how possessions can stall. Those competing signals leave too much uncertainty about the combined score to back either direction.

Holy Cross Crusaders vs William & Mary Tribe projected score

Game forecast: William & Mary 27, Holy Cross 20. Confidence is low. Watkins’ passing efficiency and the Tribe’s record of reaching 20 points give William & Mary the stronger case for this forecast, with Khylil Johnson offering a threat for substantial gains.

The strongest counterargument is Lynch’s four-touchdown, interception-free performance at Lafayette. Holy Cross paired that passing output with extended possession, a combination that could produce a cover or an outright upset if repeated.

The forecast favors William & Mary, but neither the spread nor total earns a recommendation at the supplied prices. Both markets are a Pass, and the single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
