Davidson Wildcats vs San Diego Toreros Predictions October 3, 2026

Game time: October 3, 2026 at 4:00 PM ET

Venue: Torero Stadium — San Diego, CA

Article updated Sep 30, 11:12 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

San Diego will beat Davidson 34-28 in our forecast, with Dom Nankil’s passing production the strongest reason to favor the Toreros against a defense that just allowed 621 yards. Davidson’s productive receivers and San Diego’s own defensive problems make this a low-confidence pick. Neither the supplied 13.5-point spread nor the 60.5 total offers a compelling wager. The official SportsJaw recommendation is Pass.

Davidson Wildcats vs San Diego Toreros prediction and best bet

San Diego gets the pick in this Oct. 3, 2026, college football matchup because its passing attack has a promising opening against Davidson. Nankil threw for 354 yards against St. Thomas on Sept. 26. That same day, Davidson allowed Drake 392 passing yards and another 229 on the ground.

The case for a Toreros victory is stronger than the case for a comfortable margin. Davidson scored 32 points against Drake, while San Diego allowed 50 at St. Thomas. Those results suggest opportunities for both offenses, with neither defense inspiring much trust. Our forecast is San Diego 34, Davidson 28, with low confidence. The best betting decision is Pass.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Davidson Wildcats outlook

Davidson’s 51-32 loss to Drake contained a substantial passing performance. Casey Bullock completed 28 of 44 attempts for 345 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. That gives the Wildcats a credible offensive route into this matchup, particularly against a San Diego team coming off its own difficult defensive afternoon.

Jacary Lightsey accounted for 10 receptions, 170 yards and a touchdown. AJ Adams added three catches for 59 yards and two touchdowns. Their contributions offer different reasons for optimism: Lightsey supplied repeated involvement and substantial yardage, while Adams turned a smaller reception total into two scores. San Diego must account for more than one receiver.

The concern is how much Davidson may need from that group. Drake responded to the Wildcats’ opening touchdown with 28 consecutive points and finished with 621 total yards. Its 392 passing yards and 229 rushing yards show that Davidson struggled against both parts of the offense.

For this forecast, the passing production keeps Davidson competitive; the defensive result keeps it from being the pick to win. A repeat of Bullock’s five touchdown passes would be a demanding expectation. Davidson needs a better balance between offensive success and defensive resistance to turn another productive passing day into a victory.

San Diego Toreros outlook

San Diego’s 50-17 defeat at St. Thomas presents a mixed offensive picture. Nankil completed 29 of 50 passes for 354 yards and ran for a touchdown. Elijah Taylor caught 10 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown, giving the Toreros a productive receiving option heading into their PFL home opener.

The Toreros also recorded 25 first downs and held possession for 33:04. Those figures show offensive activity beyond the passing-yardage headline. Yet the 17-point finish matters just as much. Moving the ball and possessing it did not translate into enough scoring to keep that game close.

That distinction is central to the San Diego forecast. Davidson’s defensive performance against Drake makes an improvement in scoring plausible, but Nankil’s yardage alone is no guarantee. The projected 34 points require the Toreros to get more scoring value from their possessions than they managed at St. Thomas.

Defensively, San Diego allowed three touchdowns of at least 25 yards. That is a meaningful concern against Davidson’s receivers, although it is not a complete account of the Toreros’ coverage. Their 1-3 record and most recent result leave a substantial counterargument to the favorite. Returning home supplies the setting for a rebound, while the passing matchup supplies the actual football reason to predict one.

Key matchup factors

The decisive question is which offense converts its opportunities into points more effectively. Davidson scored 32 in its last game; San Diego scored 17 despite finishing with slightly more passing yardage than the Wildcats. That contrast argues against choosing a winner simply by comparing the quarterbacks’ yardage totals.

Defensive resistance is the other major variable. Davidson allowed Drake to produce through the air and on the ground, while San Diego conceded several long touchdowns to St. Thomas. These were different opponents, so the results should guide the matchup assessment without becoming a direct ranking of the teams. San Diego earns a slight preference, with Davidson’s receiving production the strongest threat to that forecast.

Davidson Wildcats vs San Diego Toreros spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on San Diego -13.5 (-113) and Davidson +13.5 (-113). The projected six-point margin points toward Davidson relative to the line, but confidence in that margin is too fragile for an official underdog wager.

Davidson’s 621 yards allowed create the risk that San Diego pulls away. Conversely, the Toreros’ 50 points allowed and Davidson’s five passing touchdowns make laying 13.5 difficult to justify. At these prices, neither side earns a bet. Picking San Diego to win does not require backing it to win by at least 14.

Davidson Wildcats vs San Diego Toreros total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 60.5 (-113) and Under 60.5 (-113). Both teams allowed at least 50 points on Sept. 26, giving the Over an understandable appeal. Our San Diego 34, Davidson 28 forecast totals 62 points, just above the line.

That narrow difference is not enough to recommend Over at -113. San Diego’s 17-point output despite 354 passing yards illustrates the uncertainty in turning yardage into scoring. Under carries its own risk given the defensive results and Davidson’s touchdown production. Neither direction offers a convincing advantage at 60.5.

Davidson Wildcats vs San Diego Toreros projected score

Game forecast: San Diego 34, Davidson 28. Nankil and Taylor give the Toreros a plausible way to exploit the defensive problems Davidson showed against Drake. The prediction calls for San Diego to turn that opportunity into enough points to win its conference home opener.

Davidson’s passing attack remains the strongest counterargument. Bullock, Lightsey and Adams produced enough against Drake to make another competitive offensive showing credible, especially after San Diego’s defensive struggles. Confidence is low because the recent evidence gives both teams a route to scoring and neither a dependable defensive advantage. The spread and total are separate Pass recommendations, and the single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
