Minnesota Golden Gophers vs Indiana Hoosiers Predictions October 31, 2026

Game time: October 31, 2026 at 3:30 PM ET

Venue: Memorial Stadium (Bloomington, IN) — Bloomington, IN

Article updated Oct 24, 11:32 PM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Indiana will beat Minnesota, with a projected score of Indiana 24, Minnesota 13. The strongest matchup advantage is the Hoosiers’ defensive disruption against a Gophers offense coming off its lowest yardage output of the season. Under 45.5 (-110) is the actionable SportsJaw wager, supported by both teams’ recent defensive performances. The spread is a Pass.

Minnesota Golden Gophers vs Indiana Hoosiers prediction and best bet

Indiana’s defense gives the Hoosiers the stronger path to victory. Its 10 tackles for loss at Michigan on October 24 present a difficult matchup for Minnesota after the Gophers gained just 209 yards against Iowa. Expect Indiana to disrupt enough possessions to win, with Under 45.5 (-110) the best bet.

Minnesota’s defense is the reason to separate that winner forecast from a large-margin prediction. The Gophers held Iowa to 10 points and 90 rushing yards, while Indiana needed overtime to win 13-6 at Michigan. Those results favor a restrained scoring forecast. They also leave room for Minnesota to resist without producing enough offense to pull off an upset.

Minnesota Golden Gophers outlook

Minnesota’s October 24 victory supplied a strong defensive performance and a clear offensive concern. The Gophers beat No. 15 Iowa 13-10 on Luke Drzewiecki’s 46-yard field goal as time expired. Darius Taylor scored a third-quarter rushing touchdown, but Minnesota finished with a season-low 209 yards of offense.

The most persuasive number was Iowa’s rushing total. The Hawkeyes entered averaging 194 yards on the ground and finished with 90. Minnesota also limited Iowa to 288 total yards and four conversions on 16 third-down attempts. That performance gives the Gophers a credible route to keeping Indiana within reach: force stalled possessions and make the Hoosiers earn their scoring opportunities.

The offensive concern matters just as much. Another 209-yard afternoon would put considerable pressure on Minnesota’s defense, particularly if Indiana’s tackles for loss leave the Gophers facing difficult third downs. Taylor’s touchdown offers a recent example of a successful scoring play, but that single result is too narrow to project consistent rushing success here.

Minnesota needs offensive movement as well as defensive stops. Avoiding negative plays would help sustain possessions and reduce the burden on a defense that was central to the Iowa win.

Indiana Hoosiers outlook

Indiana’s 13-6 overtime win at Michigan on October 24 showed how its defense can influence a game even when scoring is scarce. The Hoosiers recorded 10 tackles for loss, their second double-digit performance of 2026. Rolijah Hardy and Tobi Osunsanmi each registered 2.0 sacks, with Osunsanmi extending his sack streak to seven consecutive weeks.

Amare Ferrell added an interception against Michigan after intercepting two passes against Ohio State on October 17. Those individually dated contributions strengthen the case that Minnesota faces several sources of disruption. Indiana’s official notes also report that the Hoosiers have tied or won the turnover battle in 32 straight games dating to 2024.

The longer defensive record reinforces the recent result. Indiana has held opponents below 100 rushing yards 27 times since the start of 2024. CBS Sports reported on October 19 that the Hoosiers led the Big Ten in scoring defense at midseason. That ranking is useful dated context, rather than an updated standing after the Michigan game.

The restraint comes on offense. Josh Hoover’s four-yard rushing touchdown gave Indiana its 13-6 overtime lead at Michigan. Winning that game supports the Hoosiers’ resilience, but scoring 13 points offers little encouragement for laying 22.5 against another defense coming off a strong performance.

Key matchup factors

Negative plays are the clearest matchup concern for Minnesota. A tackle for loss can turn a manageable possession into a difficult passing situation, and Indiana’s recent production makes that a credible threat. Minnesota’s response must be enough early-down efficiency to avoid repeatedly asking its offense to recover lost yardage.

Turnovers could change the scoring picture in either direction. Indiana’s long streak of at least breaking even in that category strengthens the winner forecast, but it is not a promise of another favorable result. A takeaway that supplies a short field could also hurt the Under. The total recommendation depends on defensive stops outweighing those potential scoring shortcuts.

Minnesota Golden Gophers vs Indiana Hoosiers spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Minnesota +22.5 (-110) and Indiana -22.5 (-110). The projected 11-point margin points toward Minnesota, but an exact score estimate is too fragile to make the spread an automatic bet.

Minnesota’s defense offers resistance, while its limited recent offensive output creates the risk of repeated empty possessions. Indiana’s pressure could turn those struggles into a comfortable margin. Conversely, the Hoosiers’ 13-point performance at Michigan argues against assuming a runaway. The competing paths make the spread less attractive than the total.

Minnesota Golden Gophers vs Indiana Hoosiers total prediction

Total recommendation: Under 45.5 (-110). Minnesota and Iowa combined for 23 points on October 24; Indiana and Michigan combined for 19, including overtime. More useful than those final scores alone are Minnesota’s rushing defense and Indiana’s tackles for loss, which explain how possessions could stall again.

The projected 37 points leave room below 45.5, although two recent games are a limited sample. Short fields and defensive scores are the principal risks to this forecast. Under 45.5 remains the strongest wager, with the defensive evidence carrying more weight than the precise score projection.

Minnesota Golden Gophers vs Indiana Hoosiers projected score

Game forecast: Indiana 24, Minnesota 13, with medium confidence. Indiana gets the winner selection because its recent defensive disruption is supported by longer-running rushing-defense and turnover results. The Hoosiers also improved to 3-1 in one-score games this season after beating Michigan, though close-game success should not be confused with an ability to cover a large spread.

Minnesota’s strongest counterargument is its defense against Iowa. Repeating that performance could keep this closer than projected, especially if Indiana again struggles to score. The official SportsJaw wager is Under 45.5 (-110). Both sides of the 22.5-point spread remain a Pass; the scoring case is stronger than the case for a particular winning margin.
