Nebraska will beat Washington, with a projected score of Nebraska 28, Washington 17, behind a defense allowing 15.4 points per game. Washington’s unresolved quarterback competition adds uncertainty, although Elijah Brown’s productive Purdue outing gives the Huskies a credible response. Neither Nebraska -9.5 (-117) nor Under 48.5 (-110) offers a strong enough case for an actionable wager. The official pick is Pass.

Washington Huskies vs Nebraska Cornhuskers prediction and best bet

Nebraska’s defensive results make the Cornhuskers the pick to win this October 31 matchup. Its October 22 report placed the team 11th nationally in total defense and 16th in scoring defense. Those season numbers offer a stronger foundation for the forecast than assuming Washington will repeat either the touchdowns or the interceptions from Brown’s October 16 start.

The betting decision is closer. Nebraska must win by at least 10 to cover -9.5 (-117), and the projected 11-point margin leaves little room for error. Washington’s passing production also complicates an Under bet. Nebraska 28, Washington 17 is the forecast, with medium confidence in the winner. The best betting decision is Pass.

Washington Huskies outlook

Washington has a quarterback decision with meaningful consequences for the forecast. An October 22 report from The Spokesman-Review and Seattle Times said Jedd Fisch planned to divide first-team practice repetitions between Demond Williams Jr. and Elijah Brown during the bye week. Williams was recovering from a rib injury after missing the October 16 win at Purdue, and Fisch was considering Brown for the Nebraska start.

An older Covers entry, dated October 17, listed Williams as questionable and unlikely to dress against Nebraska. The newer practice report leaves his participation less settled than that earlier assessment suggests. Neither report confirms the starter.

Brown’s Purdue performance supplies both encouragement and concern. He completed 21 of 27 passes for 302 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Washington finished with 488 total yards and 5.5 yards per play. That is substantial production, but the interceptions make it risky to project another smooth scoring performance.

Covers also listed Trey Cooley as questionable on October 19 and Chris Moss as questionable on October 17, both with undisclosed injuries. Their listings add uncertainty without confirming absences. Washington’s clearest route to a competitive game is preserving Brown’s passing efficiency while avoiding the mistakes that accompanied it.

Nebraska Cornhuskers outlook

Nebraska’s October 22 release reported 271.3 yards allowed per game and 15.4 points allowed per game. Those figures ranked 11th and 16th nationally, respectively. The Cornhuskers also ranked 13th in turnover margin at plus-0.86 per game. That last statistic belongs to the whole team: it reflects both protecting the ball and taking it away, rather than measuring the defense alone.

The same release said only one opponent had exceeded 20 points since linebacker Owen Chambliss returned after missing the opener. That stretch reinforces the scoring-defense numbers, although it should not be treated as proof that his return alone caused those results.

Nebraska also has offensive support for the winner forecast. The team ranked in the national top 40 in total offense and scoring offense, averaged 5.0 yards per carry and gained nearly 50 more rushing yards per game than in the previous season. Its third-down conversion rate exceeded 50 percent, placing it second in the Big Ten.

Those strengths give Nebraska multiple ways to sustain drives. They also complicate the Under argument: productive rushing and successful third downs can lead to touchdowns as well as consume time. The forecast favors Nebraska’s balance, while the betting assessment leaves room for either offensive efficiency or Washington’s passing game to change the scoring.

Key matchup factors

The central question is how much of Washington’s Purdue production carries into this matchup. Brown showed accuracy and touchdown production, but one start containing three interceptions is a volatile guide. Nebraska’s season defensive averages point toward a tougher scoring assignment without guaranteeing another turnover-heavy game.

Nebraska’s third-down success matters because it offers a route to extending possessions even when an early-down play fails. Still, conversion efficiency is not a measured pace statistic, and it should not automatically become an Under argument.

The quarterback decision is the remaining swing factor. Williams sharing practice repetitions keeps him in the discussion; it does not confirm his availability, effectiveness or intended role against Nebraska.

Washington Huskies vs Nebraska Cornhuskers spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Nebraska -9.5 (-117) and Washington +9.5 (-113). Nebraska’s defensive profile supports picking the winner, but the projected 11-point victory clears the favorite’s required margin by only 1.5 points.

Brown’s 302 passing yards against Purdue are the strongest reason to respect Washington’s chance of staying close. His three interceptions pull the other way. With the quarterback choice unsettled, that range of outcomes makes laying nearly 10 points uncomfortable. Taking Washington requires confidence in its ability to sustain scoring against Nebraska that this single offensive performance cannot supply.

Washington Huskies vs Nebraska Cornhuskers total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 48.5 (-110) and Under 48.5 (-110). The projected 45 points sit 3.5 below the line, making Under the forecast’s directional preference, but that gap alone is insufficient reason to bet.

Nebraska’s scoring defense supports a restrained Washington projection. The counterweight is offensive production on both sides: Brown threw three touchdowns at Purdue, while Nebraska’s rushing efficiency and third-down success can sustain scoring drives. Interceptions could stop Washington possessions or give Nebraska favorable field position. The balance is too uncertain to make Under the official wager.

Washington Huskies vs Nebraska Cornhuskers projected score

Game forecast: Nebraska 28, Washington 17. Nebraska’s combination of strong defensive averages and productive rushing earns the winner selection. The projected score assumes Washington moves the ball but has less scoring success than its passing output at Purdue might suggest.

The strongest counterargument is Brown’s accuracy and three-touchdown performance. If Washington retains that production while reducing interceptions, both the margin and total could move against this projection. Williams’ unresolved status adds another variable without justifying an assumed boost or decline.

Confidence is medium in Nebraska winning, with less conviction in the exact margin and combined score. Both the spread and total recommendations are Pass. The single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
