Jacksonville St. Gamecocks vs Kennesaw St. Owls Predictions October 7, 2026

Game time: October 7, 2026 at 7:00 PM ET

Venue: Fifth Third Stadium — Kennesaw, GA

Article updated Oct 3, 3:40 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Jacksonville State will beat Kennesaw State 24-20 in the forecast for Oct. 7, with Caden Creel’s passing and rushing production supplying the strongest reason to favor the Gamecocks. His recent performance gives Jacksonville State a slight edge, but its situational struggles leave room for an upset. Neither the supplied spread nor total offers a strong enough betting case. The official wager is Pass.

Jacksonville St. Gamecocks vs Kennesaw St. Owls prediction and best bet

Jacksonville State is the pick because Creel gives its offense two productive ways to attack. He accounted for 360 yards and two touchdowns against Middle Tennessee on Sept. 26. That performance supports a narrow preference for the Gamecocks, although a different opponent makes it an imperfect guide to this matchup.

Kennesaw State’s rushing production is the strongest reason to keep the forecast close. Boogie Woods III topped 100 rushing yards in the Owls’ last game, and Jacksonville State coach Charles Kelly has acknowledged problems with situational execution. The prediction is Jacksonville State 24, Kennesaw State 20, with low confidence. Best bet: Pass. Picking the winner is easier here than finding an attractive price.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Date: Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, in the 2026 college football season.

Venue: Walens Family Field at Fifth Third Stadium.

Broadcast: CBS Sports Network.

SportsJaw spread: Jacksonville State -2.5 (-120); Kennesaw State +2.5 (+100).

Moneyline: Jacksonville State -154; Kennesaw State +128.

Total: Over 48.5 (-116); Under 48.5 (-104).

Jacksonville St. Gamecocks outlook

Creel delivered a balanced performance in Jacksonville State’s 23-13 victory over Middle Tennessee. He completed 19 of 27 passes for 241 yards and one touchdown, then added a team-high 119 rushing yards and another touchdown on 12 carries. Those numbers make defending the quarterback a central assignment for Kennesaw State, rather than allowing the Owls to focus exclusively on his passing.

Jacksonville State’s Sept. 28 release also identified Creel as the only FBS quarterback with at least 1,100 passing yards and 300 rushing yards at publication. That broader benchmark strengthens the case that his contribution in both areas extends beyond one successful afternoon.

Finishing possessions remains a concern. Kelly said the Gamecocks have emphasized red-zone, third-down and two-minute situations after struggling in those areas. Garrison Rippa helped against Middle Tennessee by making all three field-goal attempts and both extra points, accounting for 11 points. Reliable kicking in that game was useful, but touchdowns would give Jacksonville State more breathing room.

Kelly said the team received a couple of days off after five consecutive games before returning to practice. He also said Walker O'Steen would miss the rest of the season, while noting that he was awaiting the official diagnosis.

Kennesaw St. Owls outlook

Kennesaw State’s Sept. 26 recap listed the Owls at 1-3 after a 17-14 loss at Arkansas State. Woods was the offensive centerpiece, carrying 19 times for 101 yards and two touchdowns while adding five catches for 20 yards. Repeating that rushing success would give Kennesaw State a practical route to a close fourth quarter.

Rickie Collins completed 17 of 24 passes for 129 yards and rushed for 52 yards. The completion count showed that the Owls could connect through the air, although the yardage was modest. Against Jacksonville State, their challenge is turning possessions into enough points to keep pace with Creel.

A 14-play, 76-yard third-quarter touchdown drive against Arkansas State offers an encouraging example of sustained offense. The missed 32-yard field goal with 2:59 remaining illustrates how costly a single empty opportunity can become in a tight game.

Kelly highlighted both Collins and Amari Odom as quarterbacks capable of throwing and running when protection breaks down. That assessment makes containment a meaningful part of Jacksonville State’s defensive task, without settling who will start. Tight end G. Bullock Jr. was listed as questionable with an undisclosed injury in the Sept. 27 Covers update. The Owls’ recap described roughly 10 days of rest before this matchup.

Key matchup factors

Protection and containment could determine whether Jacksonville State’s offensive advantage survives. Kelly described Kennesaw State’s defense as a 3-4 unit that can complicate protection and change coverages. The implication for this forecast is straightforward: Creel’s production matters most if Jacksonville State can keep possessions from stalling.

At the other end, Kelly identified quarterback containment and limiting explosive plays as priorities. Kennesaw State could benefit if Jacksonville State commits heavily to Woods and loses discipline against a mobile quarterback. Both teams therefore have plausible ways to challenge the forecast. The recent offensive numbers favor Creel, but they came against different defenses and should not be treated as a direct measure of the gap.

Jacksonville St. Gamecocks vs Kennesaw St. Owls spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Jacksonville State -2.5 (-120) and Kennesaw State +2.5 (+100). A Jacksonville State victory by three or more points would cover its spread, and the four-point forecast lands on that side.

The cushion is small, however, and the -120 price requires more conviction than this matchup earns. Jacksonville State’s situational struggles could turn a promising drive into a field goal or an empty possession. Kennesaw State’s rushing success supplies an upset argument, but one productive outing is not enough to make the Owls the preferred spread wager.

Jacksonville St. Gamecocks vs Kennesaw St. Owls total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 48.5 (-116) and Under 48.5 (-104). The projected 44 points favor the Under directionally, with Jacksonville State’s finishing concerns and Kennesaw State’s sustained rushing attack offering a plausible lower-scoring path.

That is still a fragile scoring estimate. Creel’s ability to contribute through the air and on the ground gives Jacksonville State multiple routes to touchdowns, while Kelly’s concern about explosive plays identifies another source of uncertainty. Two recent game results are too narrow a sample for a confident total wager. The projected score remains a forecast, not sufficient justification to buy the Under.

Jacksonville St. Gamecocks vs Kennesaw St. Owls projected score

Game forecast: Jacksonville State 24, Kennesaw State 20. Creel’s recent production and season passing-and-rushing benchmark give the Gamecocks the slight advantage. The prediction assumes Jacksonville State converts enough of that offensive potential into points despite the execution concerns Kelly identified.

The strongest counterargument is an Owls offense that sustains drives through Woods and gets timely contributions from its quarterback. Kennesaw State’s defensive variations could also make Jacksonville State work harder for scoring opportunities. Those competing paths keep confidence low. Jacksonville State is the projected winner, both the supplied spread and total are Pass, and Pass is the single official SportsJaw betting recommendation.
