Missouri St. Bears vs Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Predictions October 8, 2026

Game time: October 8, 2026 at 7:00 PM ET

Venue: Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium — Bowling Green, KY

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Missouri State is projected to beat Western Kentucky 28-27, with Skyler Locklear’s efficient passing and Isaiah Myers’ downfield production giving the Bears a slight offensive edge. Confidence is low because the Hilltoppers have home field and Jonathan Stafford Jr. coming off a career-best receiving performance. Neither Missouri State +2.5 (-107) nor the total of 56.5 (-110) offers a strong enough edge for an official wager.

Missouri St. Bears vs Western Kentucky Hilltoppers prediction and best bet

Missouri State gets the pick in a close game, with Locklear’s accuracy the strongest reason to favor the visiting Bears. His passing efficiency offers a plausible route to sustained possessions, while Myers gives that offense a threat beyond short completions. The forecast is Missouri State 28, Western Kentucky 27.

The best betting decision is Pass. Missouri State’s offensive strengths make the upset plausible, but there is too little defensive comparison to turn that preference into a confident assessment of the spread. Western Kentucky’s productive receivers also make this a fragile winner selection. A projected victory alone is insufficient reason to buy the underdog.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Game time: Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, at 6 p.m. CT. This is a 2026 college football Conference USA matchup.

Venue: Houchens-Smith Stadium in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Broadcast: CBS Sports Network.

Records: Missouri State is 1-3 overall and 0-0 in Conference USA. Western Kentucky is 1-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

SportsJaw spread: Missouri State +2.5 (-107); Western Kentucky -2.5 (-109). Moneyline: Missouri State +115; Western Kentucky -135.

SportsJaw total: Over 56.5 (-110); Under 56.5 (-110).

Missouri St. Bears outlook

Locklear leads Conference USA with a 70.2 percent completion rate, accompanied by 8.32 yards per attempt and a 153.5 passer-efficiency rating. The yards per attempt matter alongside the accuracy: Missouri State’s passing case includes meaningful gains, rather than resting entirely on completed throws.

Myers has 17 receptions for 342 yards and two touchdowns. His 20.12 yards per catch ranks third in Conference USA, making him the clearest documented source of explosive receiving production for the Bears. Breezy Dubar adds a rushing option at 5.2 yards per carry; he gained a season-high 76 yards on seven carries at SMU on Sept. 26.

Defensively, Missouri State has six takeaways, including four fumble recoveries, and one defensive touchdown. Jared Lloyd averages 11.3 tackles per game and recorded 13 in each of the two games preceding the official preview. Those are useful individual and turnover contributions, although they should not be mistaken for a complete measure of defensive effectiveness.

Western Kentucky Hilltoppers outlook

Western Kentucky’s Oct. 1 conference opener ended in a 34-13 loss at New Mexico State despite 314 passing yards. The contrast between passing production and scoring is the main concern entering this game. The Hilltoppers incurred 84 penalty yards, and coach Tyson Helton attributed stalled drives to penalties.

Stafford gives Western Kentucky an encouraging recent performance to build around. He recorded career highs of 10 receptions and 108 yards against New Mexico State and earned Conference USA Freshman of the Week for a second consecutive week. Through five games, he leads the team with 30 catches and 260 receiving yards.

Brock Glenn scored on an 11-yard run in that loss, his fourth rushing touchdown of the season. Karl Campbell contributed field goals from 45 and 41 yards, bringing his season totals to 3-for-3 on field goals and 10-for-10 on extra points. Those scoring options matter in a forecast separated by one point.

Key matchup factors

The decisive question is how effectively passing gains become points. Missouri State’s combination of accuracy and receiving explosiveness earns the narrow forecast preference. Western Kentucky’s latest result illustrates the counterweight: moving the ball through the air can still leave an offense well short on the scoreboard when possessions break down.

Consensus is divided. In the Oct. 7 update at 11:28 UTC, the blended spread reading favored Western Kentucky -2.5 (-109) at 54 percent, while the current SportsJaw community leader was Missouri State +2.5 (-107). These are measures of selection preference, not team win probabilities.

The total shows a similar split: the sportsbook component favored Over at 55 percent, while the blended reading favored Under at 56 percent. SportsJaw members also favored Under. That disagreement reinforces caution without deciding how either offense will perform.

Missouri St. Bears vs Western Kentucky Hilltoppers spread prediction

Pass on Missouri State +2.5 (-107) and Western Kentucky -2.5 (-109). The Bears are the preferred football side, and the projected outright win naturally favors their spread outcome. Still, the forecast rests on offensive indicators without a sufficiently complete comparison of the opposing defenses.

The distinction matters with a short spread. A competitive Missouri State performance can still end in a three-point loss, which would lose at +2.5. Western Kentucky’s home field and Stafford’s recent production are meaningful counterarguments. The points are appealing, but the edge is too uncertain for an official bet.

Missouri St. Bears vs Western Kentucky Hilltoppers total prediction

Pass on Over 56.5 (-110) and Under 56.5 (-110). The projected 55 points fall 1.5 below the total, a narrow difference for a forecast with low confidence.

Missouri State’s passing efficiency and Western Kentucky’s recent aerial production offer reasons to expect scoring opportunities. The Hilltoppers’ 13-point finish at New Mexico State supplies the strongest caution. Neither that single result nor the divided consensus is enough to make Under an actionable recommendation.

Missouri St. Bears vs Western Kentucky Hilltoppers projected score

Game forecast: Missouri State 28, Western Kentucky 27. Locklear’s efficiency and Myers’ ability to generate substantial gains give the Bears the slight edge. The strongest counterargument is Western Kentucky’s home setting and Stafford’s recent emergence, which could readily swing a close finish.

Confidence is low. Missouri State is the projected winner, both the spread and total are passes, and the single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
