Alabama at Kentucky: Quarterback and injury questions support a pass

Matchup and market

The Alabama Crimson Tide visit the Kentucky Wildcats at Kroger Field in Lexington on Saturday, September 12, 2026, for their SEC football opener. Both teams enter 1-0, according to the September 10 Tuscaloosa Thread availability report.

Alabama is priced at -390 on the moneyline and -10 (-110) against the spread. Kentucky is +310 outright and +10 (-110). The total is over 48.5 (-110) or under 48.5 (-110). Those prices establish Alabama as the market favorite, but do not by themselves establish a worthwhile wager.

What the opening week establishes

According to TideFans’ September 7 preview, Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell and Kentucky quarterback Kenny Minchey each made his first collegiate start in Week 1. Russell led Alabama’s rushing effort against East Carolina with 86 yards on 13 carries. Minchey had one carry for 17 yards against Youngstown State.

Kentucky opened with a 45-13 victory over Youngstown State under first-year coach Will Stein. TideFans nevertheless identified pass defense as a concern after that game, following earlier questions about the secondary. That concern merits attention, but it does not establish how effectively Alabama will throw against Kentucky.

Availability and betting decision

Thursday’s report listed Alabama right guard Michael Carroll as out and running back AK Dear as questionable. Kentucky listed offensive lineman Jay Clark as out, with defensive back Andre Clark Jr. and offensive linemen Max Anderson and Aba Selm questionable. These are the reported Thursday designations, not confirmed game-day statuses.

The available evidence does not establish an expected scoring margin or total strongly enough to recommend Alabama, Kentucky or either side of 48.5. Kentucky’s opening win and Alabama’s personnel absences are insufficient grounds to endorse the underdog. The recommendation is Pass, with no projected winner or score.
