South Carolina State vs Furman Paladins Predictions

Game time: September 19, 2026 at 7:00 PM ET

Article updated Sep 18, 3:03 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

The unbeaten Bulldogs bring dominant early results, while Furman brings a ranked road win. Neither case establishes enough value at the supplied prices.

Matchup outlook

South Carolina State visits the Furman Paladins at Paladin Stadium on September 19 in this 2026 college football matchup. Furman’s official preview lists the Bulldogs at 3-0 and No. 16 in the AFCA FCS rankings; the Paladins are 2-1 and No. 24.

South Carolina State has outscored its opponents 184-13, most recently beating Virginia State 66-0. Those margins demand attention, but the Black College Sports Page report notes that two of the Bulldogs’ three opponents were Division II programs. That limits how confidently their early dominance can be translated into a road cover.

The same report lists Keely Watson at 34 completions in 50 attempts for 456 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions. Mason Pickett-Hicks has 425 rushing yards on 37 carries. Those individual numbers strengthen the Bulldogs’ offensive case, though they come from the same three-game schedule.

Furman offers meaningful counterevidence. In its 20-13 victory at then-No. 14 Mercer, the defense generated five takeaways, four sacks and held Mercer to two conversions in 16 third-down attempts. That performance supports respect for the Paladins, but another five-takeaway game is too much to assume.

Furman also has offensive questions. Jake Garcia’s reported totals are 377 passing yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Backing the home underdog would require confidence that its offense can contribute without relying on another exceptional takeaway haul.

Price and decision

SportsJaw lists South Carolina State at -400 moneyline and -9.5 (-115), with Furman at +285 moneyline and +9.5 (-105). The Bulldogs’ production favors their case, while Furman’s Mercer performance makes laying that spread less comfortable. Neither establishes a clear price advantage.

The total is 47.5, with over and under both priced at -113. Schedule differences and uncertainty about repeat turnovers also weaken the scoring forecast. Pass on this matchup; no winner or score projection is warranted.
