Atlanta Falcons vs New Orleans Saints Predictions October 5, 2026

Game time: October 5, 2026 at 8:15 PM ET

Venue: Caesars Superdome — New Orleans, LA

Article updated Oct 2, 2:49 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

The Atlanta Falcons will beat the New Orleans Saints 24-23 in a low-confidence forecast. Four Saints front-seven defenders missed Thursday practice, creating the clearest potential opening for Atlanta’s listed offensive starters. Those practice absences leave Monday availability unsettled, however, and Atlanta has defensive concerns of its own. Neither Falcons +2.5 (-107) nor total 48 (-110) offers a strong enough case for an actionable wager.

Atlanta Falcons vs New Orleans Saints prediction and best bet

Atlanta gets the narrow forecast edge because New Orleans has practice concerns at both linebacker and edge defender. Kaden Elliss, Pete Werner, Carl Granderson and Anfernee Jennings all missed Thursday’s session. If those issues carry into Monday, the Falcons could have an opening for Bijan Robinson and their passing game.

The best betting decision is Pass. A Thursday absence is not a Monday inactive designation, and Atlanta’s own defensive injuries complicate the matchup. Falcons +2.5 (-107) offers protection in a close loss, but that feature alone is no reason to buy the spread. The forecast favors Atlanta by one; confidence in a profitable wager is a separate judgment.

Atlanta Falcons outlook

Atlanta’s official depth chart gives its offense a defined starting group: Penix at quarterback, Robinson in the backfield and London at receiver. Their listed roles identify the personnel around whom this forecast is built. They do not, by themselves, tell us how efficiently Atlanta will move the ball or how often it will finish drives with touchdowns.

The potential advantage is across the line of scrimmage. With two Saints linebackers and two edge defenders missing Thursday practice, Robinson could face a defense managing several availability questions. Should those players remain limited or miss the game, Atlanta could test replacement combinations with its running and passing attacks. That is a conditional matchup advantage, with its size dependent on Monday’s personnel.

Atlanta also has meaningful concerns on defense. A.J. Terrell Jr. went on injured reserve with a groin injury, and C.J. Henderson is listed as a starting cornerback. Divine Deablo and Samson Ebukam were limited Thursday with hamstring injuries. Ebukam returned after missing Week 3 and not practicing since the Week 2 loss to Carolina. Za'Darius Smith’s absence was designated as rest, so it should not be counted as another injury setback.

New Orleans Saints outlook

New Orleans gets this meeting at home while continuing a three-game homestand. Both teams enter 1-2, leaving neither with a record advantage. The Saints are opening division play, and their home setting is one reason to take the possibility of a New Orleans victory seriously despite the slight Atlanta forecast lean.

Thursday’s injury report listed nine Saints. Elliss missed practice with a calf injury, Granderson with an ankle injury, Jennings with a knee injury and Werner with a shoulder injury. Their concentration at linebacker and edge defender makes this group particularly relevant to Atlanta’s offensive approach. Still, the report describes practice participation, not final game availability.

Safety Julian Blackmon, receiver and return specialist Barion Brown, tight end Noah Fant and defensive lineman Christen Miller were limited. Cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. practiced fully. That range of participation matters: treating all nine players as unavailable would exaggerate the Saints’ problems.

The clearest counterweight is Atlanta’s changed secondary. Henderson’s starting assignment following Terrell’s move to injured reserve gives New Orleans a matchup to test. The change alone does not prove a coverage weakness, but it keeps the Saints’ offensive path central to a close-game forecast.

Key matchup factors

The key distinction is between a confirmed lineup change and unresolved availability. Terrell is on injured reserve; the four Saints front-seven nonparticipants have Thursday practice designations. Atlanta’s secondary adjustment is already part of the matchup, while the extent of New Orleans’ defensive disruption remains uncertain.

At the October 2, 06:45 UTC update, the blended consensus favored Saints -140 at 71 percent and Saints -2.5 (-112) at 53 percent. The moneyline equivalent sample was 426 New Orleans selections to 174 Atlanta selections. Those counts combine modeled sportsbook selections with SportsJaw participation under the published 80/20 blend. They are not observed bettor totals or win probabilities, and the modest spread split supplies no compelling reason to fade New Orleans.

Atlanta Falcons vs New Orleans Saints spread prediction

Pass on Atlanta +2.5 (-107) and New Orleans -2.5 (-112). The Falcons’ forecast win naturally points toward the underdog, but the underlying advantage rests heavily on unresolved Saints availability. There is too little separation to turn that lean into a spread recommendation.

Atlanta covers with a win or a loss by one or two points; New Orleans needs a victory by at least three. Those settlement conditions explain the appeal of taking points, but they do not measure value. Atlanta’s defensive concerns and the Saints’ home setting keep either side from becoming the official wager.

Atlanta Falcons vs New Orleans Saints total prediction

Pass on Over 48 (-110) and Under 48 (-110). The projected 47 points sit just below the total. That one-point difference is too small to carry an Under recommendation when the scoring forecast is this uncertain.

Defensive personnel concerns give the Over a plausible path, particularly if New Orleans’ Thursday absences persist. Over 48 led the blended consensus at 69 percent, up one percentage point from October 1. Popularity is not a scoring estimate. Nor does uncertainty itself favor the Under: there is no demonstrated scoring edge strong enough to justify either price.

Atlanta Falcons vs New Orleans Saints projected score

Game forecast: Falcons 24, Saints 23. Atlanta gets the final nod because the Saints’ cluster of front-seven practice absences creates a potential opportunity for Robinson and Penix. This is a slight editorial lean, with low confidence.

The strongest counterargument is that New Orleans could recover those defenders while Atlanta still must adjust without Terrell. The Saints also play at home and lead both supplied side consensus markets. Those considerations keep the projected margin narrow and the betting decision conservative. The single official SportsJaw recommendation is Pass. Neither spread is selected, and neither Over nor Under 48 (-110) earns a wager.
