Saints at Lions: Week 1 prices leave no supported betting edge

The matchup and offensive context

The New Orleans Saints visit the Detroit Lions at Ford Field on Sunday, September 13, in Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season. Detroit is priced at -322 on the moneyline, with New Orleans at +265.

The Lions scored 481 points in 2025, their second-largest season total in franchise history, but finished 9-8 and missed the playoffs. Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs return as central offensive players under new coordinator Drew Petzing. According to Detroit’s September 7 report, Dan Campbell said Petzing incorporated concepts Goff prefers during their work together in training camp.

New Orleans also has relevant progress to build on. Tyler Shough helped the Saints finish 5-4 in 2025, earned consideration as an Offensive Rookie of the Year finalist and was voted a captain for 2026. Campbell noted that New Orleans won four of its final five games last season.

Friday’s availability report

New Orleans ruled out tight end Oscar Delp with a hamstring injury, running back Audric Estimé with a thigh injury and edge rusher Cameron Jordan with a hamstring injury. Alvin Kamara remained questionable with a knee injury despite participating fully Friday. That participation does not establish that he will play.

Detroit listed defensive back Christian Izien as questionable with a groin injury. Edge rusher Derrick Moore and defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo participated fully Friday after being limited earlier in the week.

Betting decision: Pass

The spread is Detroit -7 (-110) and New Orleans +7 (-110). Both over 50 and under 50 are priced at 50 (-110).

Detroit’s scoring history and New Orleans’ late-season improvement provide context, but neither establishes value at these prices. The injury updates likewise do not support a specific winning margin or combined score. A winner or score projection would require more than this reporting supplies.

Pass on the moneyline, spread and total. No winner or projected score is recommended.
