Carolina Hurricanes vs Calgary Flames Predictions Today

Game time: October 18, 2026 at 8:00 PM ET

Venue: Scotiabank Saddledome — Calgary, AB

Article updated Oct 18, 7:26 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

The Carolina Hurricanes will beat the Calgary Flames, 4-2, in our forecast for October 18, 2026. Carolina’s sustained scoring form against a Calgary team that has conceded 35 goals in seven games supplies the strongest matchup advantage. Neither Carolina -1.5 (+120) nor the total of 6 offers a sufficiently clear betting edge, making the official recommendation Pass despite a medium-confidence Carolina prediction.

Carolina Hurricanes vs Calgary Flames prediction and best bet

Carolina is the pick to win, with Hurricanes 4, Flames 2 the projected finish. The visitors have won seven consecutive games with a 32-15 scoring margin. That combination of results and production makes them the stronger choice against Calgary, even with Carolina playing on consecutive nights.

The best betting decision is Pass. Picking the better team is easier here than backing a specific winning margin. Carolina -1.5 (+120) requires a victory by at least two goals, and the aggregate scoring advantage during its streak does not tell us how often it cleared that threshold. The forecast favors Carolina without treating a two-goal margin as a dependable outcome.

Carolina Hurricanes outlook

Carolina defeated Winnipeg 3-2 on October 17. Nikolaj Ehlers supplied the deciding goal, while Kochetkov stopped 22 shots and improved to 5-0. The Hurricanes have won their first five road games, giving their strong overall start a useful travel component.

Mark Jankowski has six goals through nine games and enters Calgary with a league-leading six-game goal streak. Carolina’s 34 goals are tied for third-most in the NHL entering October 18. Those figures support an attack in good form, although they do not guarantee another productive night from any individual scorer.

Bussi won his previous two outings against Montreal and Chicago, making 40 combined saves. That is encouraging preparation for an expected start, but two games offer only a narrow view of his form. The quick turnaround from Winnipeg remains the main scheduling concern for Carolina.

Calgary Flames outlook

Calgary’s difficulties extend beyond its record. The Flames have scored 14 goals and allowed 35 through seven games, leaving a substantial gap at both ends of the scoreboard. Their league-high 16 third-period goals conceded make finishing games a particular concern.

The Flames are also 0-5 when allowing the first goal. That record makes a better opening especially valuable against Carolina: Calgary needs to avoid chasing a game while also trying to correct its late defensive problems.

Aydar Suniev offers an encouraging individual contribution, with two goals and one assist through four appearances. Jonathan Castagna had also played four games entering October 18. Suniev’s production is a positive, but Calgary needs broader scoring contributions to challenge the Hurricanes consistently.

Key matchup factors

The central question is whether Carolina’s offensive form can expose Calgary’s defensive weaknesses before the visitors’ short turnaround becomes a factor. A Hurricanes lead would put pressure on a Flames team that has struggled after conceding first. A close game entering the third period would test Calgary’s most conspicuous weakness.

SportsJaw’s October 18 consensus update at 11:20 UTC shows Carolina -210 leading the blended moneyline measure at 76%, up 10 percentage points from the October 17 snapshot. The sportsbook component favors Carolina at 85%. These are betting-consensus readings, not Carolina’s probability of winning.

SportsJaw members favor Calgary +182 at 60%, and qualified handicappers separately favor Calgary at 60%. Those contrary selections temper the betting case for the favorite. They do not explain why Calgary was selected, so attributing them to a particular matchup advantage would go too far.

Carolina Hurricanes vs Calgary Flames spread prediction

Pass on Carolina -1.5 (+120) and Calgary +1.5 (-140). Carolina has the stronger case for winning, and Calgary’s late concessions create a plausible route to a multi-goal finish. That is the route reflected in the 4-2 projection.

Still, Carolina’s most recent victory was by one goal, and playing again the next night adds uncertainty. The streak’s overall scoring margin cannot substitute for individual game margins when evaluating the puck line. Calgary’s defensive record also makes laying -140 for its one-goal cushion unattractive. Neither price earns an official recommendation.

Carolina Hurricanes vs Calgary Flames total prediction

Pass on Over 6 (-116) and Under 6 (+100). Carolina’s scoring and Calgary’s goals conceded create a reasonable Over argument. Calgary’s own output, however, leaves a meaningful question about how much help the Flames will provide.

SportsJaw’s community total selections favor Over 6 (-116) at 100%, but that reading is separate from a scoring forecast. The projected six goals would push either wager at this total. Bussi’s expected appearance adds another variable, and his two recent wins alone are insufficient to justify an Under selection.

Carolina Hurricanes vs Calgary Flames projected score

Projected final score: Carolina Hurricanes 4, Calgary Flames 2. Confidence is medium. Carolina’s scoring form and road results make the visitors the likely winner; the strongest counterargument is the consecutive-night schedule combined with an expected change in goal.

The two-goal projection is a forecast, not proof of puck-line value. A narrower Carolina victory remains a meaningful risk, while six projected goals leave no clear total advantage. Official SportsJaw wager: Pass.
