Murray St. Racers vs North Dakota Fighting Sioux Predictions October 3, 2026

Game time: October 3, 2026 at 2:00 PM ET

Venue: Alerus Center — Grand Forks, ND

Article updated Oct 1, 7:56 PM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

North Dakota will beat Murray State, with a projected score of North Dakota 45, Murray State 10, behind Jerry Kaminski and an offense averaging 40.0 points per game. The Racers managed just 190 yards in their conference opener. That offensive contrast supports a comfortable home win, but neither the supplied 36.5-point spread nor the 59.5 total offers a strong enough edge for an actionable wager.

Murray St. Racers vs North Dakota Fighting Sioux prediction and best bet

North Dakota has the stronger case to win this 2026 college football matchup on October 3. It enters 4-1 after beating Indiana State 42-35, while Murray State is 1-4 following a 46-6 loss to Southern Illinois. Kaminski's 16 touchdown passes and North Dakota's 40.0-point scoring average give the forecast more substance than the teams' records alone.

The official best bet is Pass. North Dakota must win by at least 37 points to cover -36.5, a demanding threshold even against an opponent coming off a poor performance. The projected 55 combined points favor the Under directionally, but North Dakota's latest game also showed defensive vulnerability. Picking the winner is easier than finding value in either supplied market.

Murray St. Racers outlook

Murray State's immediate concern is offensive production. Southern Illinois outgained the Racers 459-190 on September 26, with Murray State generating 103 rushing yards and 87 passing yards. Jim Ogle completed eight of 16 passes for 77 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. A similar passing performance would put considerable pressure on the running game to keep this matchup competitive.

Mykel Allen led the rushing effort with 48 yards on 12 carries. Jawaun Northington supplied 42 yards on five attempts, while Trey Firestone caught three passes for 39 yards. Northington's contribution was encouraging, although five carries offer only a narrow view of what he might contribute over a larger workload.

There were better offensive signs earlier. Murray State produced 388 yards against Valparaiso, evenly divided between rushing and passing. Through four games, Tyrell Campbell had 213 rushing yards and Collin Shannon had 405 passing yards. Those figures precede the Southern Illinois loss.

The offensive line had allowed three sacks through four games, tied for the fewest in the MVFC. Defensively, the Racers had 22 tackles for loss and seven sacks over that window. Those are useful strengths, but maintaining protection and creating negative plays must translate into more scoring opportunities.

North Dakota Fighting Sioux outlook

North Dakota rose to No. 5 in the September 28 Stats Perform FCS poll and No. 7 in the AFCA Coaches' poll. Its offensive performance at Indiana State supplies the clearest explanation for that standing: 520 total yards, 11 conversions on 19 third-down attempts and 36:51 of possession.

Kaminski completed 33 of 48 passes for 381 yards and four touchdowns on September 26. He also rushed for 76 yards and two touchdowns. His 16 passing touchdowns led FCS quarterbacks after that game. For this forecast, his production through both passing and rushing is the strongest reason to expect North Dakota to keep scoring.

The defense offers a more mixed picture. North Dakota recorded four sacks and nine tackles for loss against Indiana State, with Braden Mohr contributing three sacks and a forced fumble. Yet it also conceded 35 points and won by seven. The disruptive plays support an optimistic outlook against Murray State's struggling offense; the points allowed argue against assuming complete control.

North Dakota leads the series 3-0 and won last year's meeting 35-17. That history supports the winner selection, but an 18-point result offers limited reassurance for anyone considering this week's much larger spread.

Key matchup factors

Third-down execution could determine how many chances Murray State gets to stay close. North Dakota converted 11 of 19 opportunities last week. Repeating that success would make it difficult for the Racers to turn defensive stops into sustained pressure on the favorite. That is a matchup inference, rather than a season-long third-down trend.

Protection is the other important contest. Murray State's three sacks allowed through four games deserve consideration alongside North Dakota's four-sack performance at Indiana State. Neither sample guarantees which front will prevail. The forecast favors Kaminski's demonstrated scoring production, while the spread decision gives weight to Murray State's earlier protection and North Dakota's recent points allowed.

Murray St. Racers vs North Dakota Fighting Sioux spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on North Dakota -36.5 (-113) and Murray State +36.5 (-113). The projected 35-point margin falls short of a favorite cover, but the 1.5-point difference is too small to justify an underdog wager from a single score forecast.

Murray State's 40-point loss last week makes taking the points uncomfortable. Conversely, North Dakota allowed 35 points in its latest outing, and Murray State led last year's meeting 9-7 at halftime. The home team is the winner pick, but neither side of this spread earns a recommendation.

Murray St. Racers vs North Dakota Fighting Sioux total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 59.5 (-127) and Under 59.5 (-122). The projection totals 55 points, with Murray State's six-point performance against Southern Illinois supplying the strongest argument for the Under.

The opposing case deserves equal attention. North Dakota averages 40.0 points and just participated in a game with 77 combined points. Its defense allowed enough scoring to make Murray State's contribution the major uncertainty. A modest improvement from the Racers could erase the projected cushion below 59.5. At the supplied prices, neither direction merits the official wager.

Murray St. Racers vs North Dakota Fighting Sioux projected score

Game forecast: North Dakota 45, Murray State 10. Kaminski's recent passing and rushing production, North Dakota's scoring average and Murray State's difficult conference opener support a decisive home victory. Confidence is medium: the evidence favors North Dakota, but the exact margin is less secure.

The strongest counterargument is the favorite's defense after allowing 35 points at Indiana State. Murray State's earlier pass protection also gives the Racers a plausible route to a better offensive afternoon. Those considerations matter more when evaluating a 36.5-point spread and a 59.5 total than when choosing the winner. North Dakota is the forecast winner; the single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
