Kansas St. Wildcats vs Colorado Buffaloes Predictions October 31, 2026

Game time: October 31, 2026 at 2:00 PM ET

Venue: Folsom Field — Boulder, CO

Article updated Oct 27, 10:08 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Kansas State will beat Colorado, with a projected score of Kansas State 24, Colorado 20. The Wildcats' productive rushing attack and low passing-yard allowance give them the stronger matchup profile, but injuries cloud their quarterback situation. At the supplied prices, neither Kansas State -2.5 (-110) nor Under 47.5 (-110) offers a convincing enough edge. The official wager is Pass.

Kansas St. Wildcats vs Colorado Buffaloes prediction and best bet

Kansas State gets the nod because its season strengths align with Colorado's difficulties sustaining offense. The Wildcats average 217.6 rushing yards and have converted 55 of 101 third downs. Colorado converts 36.5% of its third downs and averages 20.1 points. That combination favors Kansas State in a close game, provided its offense can function effectively through the quarterback uncertainty.

The best betting decision is Pass. Avery Johnson was day-to-day on October 26, and Jacob Knuth was managing an ankle issue. Those concerns weaken the case for laying points, while Colorado's defensive struggles complicate an Under bet. A Kansas State victory is the forecast; neither market earns an official selection.

Kansas St. Wildcats outlook

Kansas State's rushing production gives the Wildcats their clearest offensive strength. They rank 14th nationally at 217.6 yards per game and fifth at 5.79 yards per carry. Their 16 runs of at least 20 yards through seven games show that the ground attack can produce sizable gains as well as help sustain possessions. The 55% third-down conversion rate adds another route to keeping drives alive.

Johnson contributes substantially to that profile. He has 1,301 passing yards, 10 touchdown passes and three interceptions, alongside 462 rushing yards on 51 carries. His 9.1-yard rushing average illustrates why his availability matters to both the offense's ceiling and this forecast.

Coach Collin Klein said on October 26 that he did not know who would take the first offensive snap against Colorado. Knuth's ankle issue compounds Johnson's uncertain status. Tight end Garrett Oakley practiced that day and was expected to be available if his progress continued.

Defensively, Kansas State allows 147.1 passing yards per game, fifth nationally and first in the Big 12. Its averages of 2.4 sacks and 7.3 tackles for loss suggest opportunities to disrupt Colorado. The Wildcats nevertheless enter off a loss and are finishing a two-game conference road trip.

Colorado Buffaloes outlook

Colorado's offensive yardage offers more encouragement than its scoring average. The Buffaloes gain 394.9 total yards per game, including 128.3 rushing yards, but score only 20.1 points per game, ranking 120th in FBS. Moving the ball has not translated into enough points to make Colorado the preferred winner here.

Isaac Wilson's latest outing illustrates both the opportunity and the risk. Against Oklahoma State on October 24, he completed 19 of 27 passes for 280 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw two interceptions. Joseph Williams caught nine passes for 135 yards. That production gives Colorado a credible passing threat even against Kansas State's strong pass-yardage numbers.

Wilson has 979 passing yards, six touchdown passes and seven interceptions. Colorado's team turnover margin is minus-nine, ranking 135th nationally. The Buffaloes also average 84.3 penalty yards per game, compared with Kansas State's 37.3. Those are substantial disadvantages if this becomes a game decided by a handful of possessions.

The defense presents another concern, allowing 30.1 points per game, 112th in FBS. The 57-24 loss at Oklahoma State adds urgency, but also cautions against treating Colorado's modest scoring average as sufficient reason to bet Under. Its defense could help Kansas State overcome offensive limitations.

Key matchup factors

The central question is how much of Kansas State's season rushing efficiency survives its quarterback uncertainty. Johnson's running contribution is significant, so simply carrying the team's averages into this matchup would overstate the certainty of its offensive advantage.

Colorado's finishing efficiency is another pressure point. The Buffaloes score on 75.0% of red-zone trips; Kansas State allows scores on 73.9% of opponents' trips. Those figures include all scoring, not just touchdowns. They suggest Colorado still has work to do after moving into scoring position.

Turnovers could swing both markets. Another Colorado giveaway could end a promising possession, but it could also hand Kansas State a short field. That makes the turnover problem more useful to the winner forecast than to a confident Under recommendation.

Kansas St. Wildcats vs Colorado Buffaloes spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Kansas State -2.5 (-110) and Colorado +2.5 (-110). A three-point Kansas State victory would cover the favorite's spread, and the projected four-point margin also clears it. The concern is confidence in that margin with both quarterbacks carrying health questions.

Colorado's turnover margin, penalties and points allowed discourage taking the underdog solely because Kansas State is unsettled. The Wildcats have the stronger overall case, but the projection sits close enough to the line that a small offensive setback could change the betting result.

Kansas St. Wildcats vs Colorado Buffaloes total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 47.5 (-110) and Under 47.5 (-110). The 44-point projection falls below the total. Colorado's scoring average and Kansas State's passing-yard allowance support that direction, but the opposing evidence is substantial.

Colorado allows 30.1 points per game, and Kansas State's explosive rushing production creates a route to a bigger offensive afternoon. Turnovers might also produce short fields rather than suppress scoring. Quarterback uncertainty adds another variable without settling the total. Under is the forecast's direction, but it is not an actionable wager at this price.

Kansas St. Wildcats vs Colorado Buffaloes projected score

Game forecast: Kansas State 24, Colorado 20. Kansas State's rushing efficiency, third-down production and defensive disruption give it the better route to victory. Colorado's turnover and penalty numbers reinforce that choice, while Wilson and Williams provide the Buffaloes with a plausible way to challenge it.

The strongest counterargument remains Kansas State's quarterback health. Season averages that include Johnson's production may overstate what the Wildcats can deliver if he is unavailable or limited, particularly with Knuth also managing an injury.

Confidence is low. Kansas State remains the selected winner, but the expected margin is fragile. Both the spread and total recommendations are Pass, and the single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
