Oklahoma St. Cowboys vs Iowa St. Cyclones Predictions October 31, 2026

Game time: October 31, 2026 at 7:00 PM ET

Venue: Jack Trice Stadium — Ames, IA

Article updated Oct 26, 12:16 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Oklahoma State will beat Iowa State, with a projected score of Oklahoma State 38, Iowa State 21. The Cowboys’ second-ranked passing offense presents the strongest advantage against a Cyclones team struggling to sustain drives. Oklahoma State -9.5 (-113) is an actionable spread pick with medium confidence. The total of 57 is a Pass because Iowa State’s scoring contribution is harder to judge.

Oklahoma St. Cowboys vs Iowa St. Cyclones prediction and best bet

Oklahoma State -9.5 (-113) is the best bet for this October 31, 2026, Big 12 matchup. The Cowboys’ advantage extends beyond last week’s contrasting results: they average 529.1 yards and 40.0 points per game, while Iowa State averages 339.9 yards and 25.9 points. That season production favors Oklahoma State to build a lead the Cyclones will struggle to erase.

The strongest reason for laying the points is the combination of Oklahoma State’s scoring and Iowa State’s difficulty extending possessions. The Cyclones convert just 29.4% of third downs. A 17-point projected margin offers room against -9.5, although the road setting and Iowa State’s season rushing production keep confidence at medium.

SportsJaw total: Over 57 (-110); Under 57 (-110). The spread is the official wager.

Oklahoma St. Cowboys outlook

Oklahoma State’s passing production gives this forecast its foundation. The Cowboys rank second in FBS with 341.0 passing yards per game and second in total offense at 529.1 yards. Their 40.0-point scoring average ranks eighth. Those season figures carry more weight than expecting another 57-point performance simply because they reached that number against Colorado.

Drew Mestemaker has completed 65.7% of his passes for 2,326 yards, 20 touchdowns and six interceptions. In the October 24 win, he threw for 386 yards and four touchdowns. Wyatt Young has contributed 639 receiving yards on 36 catches, giving the passing attack a substantial source of production.

Caleb Hawkins supplies a complementary rushing threat, with 712 yards on 142 carries. He ran for 120 yards against Colorado as Oklahoma State finished with 598 total yards and 28 first downs. His involvement gives the Cowboys an alternative when a possession calls for something other than a pass.

The defense also delivered a strong finish: Oklahoma State outscored Colorado 34-0 after halftime in the 57-24 victory. Still, that shutout covered one half. The Cowboys’ 4-0 home record also deserves limited weight when evaluating a trip to Ames.

Iowa St. Cyclones outlook

Iowa State’s best argument for a competitive game begins with Aiden Flora. He has 716 rushing yards on 102 carries, production that makes it risky to treat last week’s rushing failure as the offense’s permanent level. Before Arizona, the Cyclones had reached 100 rushing yards in 23 consecutive games.

The October 24 setback was severe. Arizona won 39-3 and limited Iowa State to 221 total yards. The Cyclones rushed for 52 yards on 31 carries, with Flora accounting for 36 yards on 12 attempts. A recovery on the ground would help Iowa State avoid asking its passing game to carry the entire response.

That passing game averages 176.9 yards, ranking 123rd in FBS. Jaylen Raynor has 1,107 passing yards, seven touchdowns, four interceptions and a 58.9% completion rate. Against Arizona, he completed eight of 10 throws for 106 yards before Connor Moberly replaced him to begin the second half. Moberly completed seven of 17 for 63 yards. That substitution alone is no reason to declare a starter for Oklahoma State.

Omari Hayes has 237 receiving yards on 19 catches. With total offense ranked 108th and scoring ranked 90th, Iowa State needs more sustained production, particularly from its 134th-ranked third-down offense.

Key matchup factors

Third down is the clearest direct statistical matchup. Iowa State’s 29.4% conversion rate meets an Oklahoma State defense allowing 35.1%, ranked 48th nationally. Those percentages are not a formula for Saturday’s outcome, but they favor the Cowboys when the Cyclones need another set of downs.

Early-down rushing is Iowa State’s route around that problem. Flora’s season output offers a credible counterargument to a comfortable Oklahoma State cover: productive carries could shorten third downs and help the Cyclones sustain possessions. Conversely, another difficult rushing performance would increase pressure on the passing game. The forecast favors Oklahoma State because its offense has produced substantially more across the season, rather than relying solely on either team’s latest result.

Oklahoma St. Cowboys vs Iowa St. Cyclones spread prediction

Spread pick: Oklahoma State -9.5 (-113). Iowa State +9.5 (-103) offers protection if its rushing game recovers enough to keep the margin within single digits. That is the strongest case for the underdog.

The Cowboys nevertheless have the better case at this line. Their season scoring and passing production, paired with Iowa State’s third-down struggles, support a double-digit victory. The projected 17-point margin exceeds the required 10-point winning margin, but it remains an estimate. This is a medium-confidence wager, with Iowa State’s rushing rebound the principal threat.

Oklahoma St. Cowboys vs Iowa St. Cyclones total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 57 (-110) and Under 57 (-110). Oklahoma State’s scoring average makes the Over tempting, while Iowa State’s three-point performance at Arizona illustrates the risk of counting on a substantial contribution from both teams.

The projected score totals 59, only two points above the line. That narrow difference is too sensitive to Iowa State’s offensive response to justify an Over wager. The Under carries its own risk against the Cowboys’ productive offense. Neither direction offers as persuasive a case as Oklahoma State against the spread.

Oklahoma St. Cowboys vs Iowa St. Cyclones projected score

Projected score: Oklahoma State 38, Iowa State 21. The Cowboys are the forecast winner with medium confidence, supported by season-long offensive production and a favorable third-down comparison. The projection allows Iowa State to improve substantially on its Arizona performance without matching Oklahoma State’s scoring.

The strongest counterargument is Flora and the rushing production Iowa State established before last week. If that returns, the Cyclones could sustain enough possessions to threaten the cover. Even with that possibility, the Cowboys have the stronger overall case to win by double digits. The single official SportsJaw wager is the spread: Oklahoma State -9.5 (-113). The total remains a Pass.
