UTEP Miners vs North Dakota St. Bison Predictions October 31, 2026

Game time: October 31, 2026 at 3:30 PM ET

Venue: Fargodome — Fargo, ND

Article updated Oct 27, 10:47 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

North Dakota State will beat UTEP, with a projected score of Bison 31, Miners 10. The strongest advantage is a defense allowing 250.1 yards per game against UTEP’s offense averaging 286.3. That favors the Bison in this October 31 matchup, but neither North Dakota State -25.5 (-110) nor the 43.5 total offers a strong enough betting edge. The official recommendation is Pass.

UTEP Miners vs North Dakota St. Bison prediction and best bet

North Dakota State has the stronger case to win because its defensive production gives UTEP a difficult route to sustained offense. The Associated Press matchup report lists the Bison second in FBS in both total defense and passing defense. UTEP averages 15.1 points per game in that report and scored 11 in its latest result.

The betting decision is less clear. North Dakota State must win by at least 26 points to cover -25.5 (-110), while its latest performance produced just 16 points. Under 43.5 (-104) deserves consideration, but UTEP’s defense allows 37.3 points per game. With meaningful obstacles facing both wagers, the best bet is Pass.

UTEP Miners outlook

UTEP’s challenge begins with an offense averaging 286.3 yards and 15.1 points per game, according to the AP matchup report. Its most recent result was a 24-11 loss to San José State on October 17. Against North Dakota State’s defensive numbers, the Miners need more than occasional productive possessions to make this a competitive game.

Raymond Moore III offers a tangible route to that improvement. The AP lists him with 414 rushing yards on 67 carries and two touchdowns. His running gives UTEP another way to gain yards when passing opportunities are limited. The forecast allows for that contribution, although North Dakota State’s 121.5 rushing yards allowed per game suggests the ground game faces a substantial test too.

The defensive matchup creates a separate problem. UTEP allows 398.3 total yards and 37.3 points per game, with opponents converting 48.3% of third downs. Those numbers leave the Miners vulnerable even if their offense improves. Their minus-2 turnover margin adds another concern, though it should not be treated as a prediction of Saturday’s turnovers. UTEP’s clearest route to a cover is scoring enough to make the large handicap matter, rather than relying entirely on defensive stops.

North Dakota St. Bison outlook

North Dakota State’s defense is the foundation of the winner selection. The AP report lists 250.1 total yards allowed per game, including 128.6 through the air, and 12.5 points allowed. Those results make it reasonable to project UTEP below its own scoring average. They also give the Bison a path to victory without requiring an exceptional offensive performance.

The offense averages 348.1 total yards, 159.5 rushing yards and 27.8 points per game in the same report. Nathan Hayes has 1,470 passing yards, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions. North Dakota State converts 40.2% of third downs, an encouraging matchup against UTEP’s defense. Its plus-6 turnover margin is another favorable season indicator, although future takeaways remain uncertain.

The October 24 loss at New Mexico supplies the strongest caution. North Dakota State finished with 251 yards, including only 53 rushing, in the 21-16 defeat. Hayes completed 17 of 33 passes for 198 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. That performance limits enthusiasm for laying 25.5 points. Gavin Sell contributed 10 tackles and five tackles for loss, showing individual defensive production even in defeat, but the offense still has to create the separation demanded by this spread.

Key matchup factors

The most useful comparison is UTEP’s limited offensive output against North Dakota State’s defensive strength. It supports a Bison victory more directly than it supports any particular winning margin. Moore’s rushing production is the clearest counterweight because it gives the Miners a scoring route beyond their passing game.

Third downs also favor North Dakota State’s offense: its 40.2% conversion rate meets a UTEP defense allowing 48.3%. That pairing suggests opportunities to extend possessions, but extended drives can produce either more points or more time between scores. The betting question is whether UTEP’s defensive weakness matters more than North Dakota State’s recent offensive struggles. That tension makes the total difficult to price confidently.

UTEP Miners vs North Dakota St. Bison spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on North Dakota State -25.5 (-110) and UTEP +25.5 (-110). The projected 21-point margin falls on UTEP’s side of the handicap, but that alone is insufficient reason to back the Miners.

UTEP’s defensive scoring average leaves substantial room for a larger Bison win. Conversely, North Dakota State’s 16-point performance at New Mexico shows why a comfortable victory need not become a cover. The matchup favors the home team, while the price requires considerably more separation than the forecast. Neither side earns an official spread recommendation.

UTEP Miners vs North Dakota St. Bison total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 43.5 (-117) and Under 43.5 (-104). The 41-point projection sits below the line, with North Dakota State’s defense supplying the main argument for the under.

The opposing case is UTEP’s 37.3 points allowed per game. A strong Bison scoring performance could threaten the under even if the Miners struggle. Moore’s running adds another possible source of points. A projection only 2.5 points below the total leaves little room for those outcomes, so the under is a scoring lean without an actionable wager.

UTEP Miners vs North Dakota St. Bison projected score

Game forecast: North Dakota State 31, UTEP 10. Confidence is medium. The Bison’s defensive results and UTEP’s limited offensive production provide a solid basis for selecting the winner. UTEP’s defensive struggles also make a modest improvement over North Dakota State’s season scoring average plausible.

The strongest counterargument is the Bison’s uneven offense at New Mexico, particularly the 53 rushing yards and two interceptions. Moore’s mobility could also help UTEP exceed this projection. Those risks matter more when choosing a wager than when choosing the likely winner. North Dakota State remains the selection to win, both spread and total recommendations remain passes, and the single official SportsJaw betting recommendation is Pass.
