Colorado Buffaloes vs Arizona St. Sun Devils Betting Picks & Predictions

Venue: Mountain America Stadium — Tempe, AZ

Article updated Nov 2, 12:16 AM EST

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Arizona State will beat Colorado 24-21, with its recent run defense providing the strongest matchup advantage. The Sun Devils held BYU to 47 rushing yards, a direct challenge to the ground attack that powered Colorado's latest win. The forecast favors Arizona State narrowly, but neither the supplied 3.5-point spread nor the 49-point total offers a strong enough betting edge. The official wager is Pass.

Colorado Buffaloes vs Arizona St. Sun Devils prediction and best bet

Arizona State gets the nod because its latest defensive performance addresses Colorado's clearest recent strength. The Buffaloes broke a five-game losing streak with a rushing-led victory over Kansas State. The Sun Devils now have the opportunity to make Colorado win another way after holding BYU to 283 total yards in their own Oct. 31 game.

That is a narrow matchup advantage, with a substantial counterweight: Arizona State's unsettled offensive line faces a Colorado defense coming off five sacks. A close game fits those competing strengths better than a comfortable home victory. The forecast is Arizona State 24, Colorado 21, with low confidence. The best betting decision is Pass on both the spread and total.

Colorado Buffaloes outlook

Colorado's 27-24 overtime victory over Kansas State on Oct. 31 supplied a concrete reason to reconsider a team that had lost five straight. At Folsom Field, the Buffaloes rushed for 222 yards and three touchdowns. Colorado Athletics described that yardage as the highest rushing total of the Deion Sanders tenure. Richard Young carried 24 times for 120 yards and two scores, giving the offense a productive focal point.

The defense contributed a season-high five sacks. That matters here because pressure is a plausible route to disrupting an Arizona State offense that used its seventh offensive-line combination in eight games against BYU. Colorado need not duplicate every part of its Kansas State performance to stay competitive if its pass rush can interrupt possessions.

Isaac Wilson delivered the winning play in overtime, throwing an 11-yard touchdown pass to Charlie Williams. The finish was encouraging, but the broader offensive lesson is the value of Young's production. If Arizona State limits the run, Colorado would need a different balance to sustain drives. One successful afternoon improves the Buffaloes' outlook without erasing the preceding five losses. Their chance to win rests on carrying those specific improvements into Tempe.

Arizona St. Sun Devils outlook

Arizona State lost 27-20 at No. 8 BYU on Oct. 31, but the defensive yardage figures offer a reason to favor the Sun Devils here. They allowed 47 rushing yards and 283 total yards. A similar effort against Colorado would challenge the foundation of the Buffaloes' latest victory and put greater responsibility on their passing game.

Cardae Mack supplied 170 total yards at BYU, including 123 rushing yards. It was his third 100-yard rushing game of the season, giving his production more support than a single standout result. True freshman Jake Fette made his first career quarterback start and completed 22 of 42 passes for 166 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Avoiding interceptions was encouraging; the modest yardage on 42 attempts still leaves questions about sustained passing production.

The offensive line is the biggest concern in this forecast. Arizona State's seventh combination in eight games reflects repeated changes, and its final four first-half drives at BYU gained just 14 yards on 14 plays. Those stalled possessions show why Mack's output and Fette's touchdown passes should not overshadow the offense's difficulties. Against Colorado's recently productive pass rush, keeping drives manageable will be central to converting defensive stops into a home win.

Key matchup factors

The decisive question is whether Colorado's rushing breakthrough survives a different opponent. Both teams produced their notable Oct. 31 results on the same day, against separate offenses and defenses. Arizona State's performance against BYU is an encouraging comparison, not a guarantee that Young will struggle.

Possession quality matters just as much as the rushing matchup. Colorado's pressure could leave Arizona State facing the kind of stalled drives it experienced before halftime at BYU. Mack offers a potential answer by creating production on the ground. The forecast gives Arizona State a slight advantage in that exchange, while recognizing that Colorado has a credible way to disrupt it.

Colorado Buffaloes vs Arizona St. Sun Devils spread prediction

Pass on Arizona State -3.5 (-110) and Colorado +3.5 (-108). A projected three-point Arizona State victory would put Colorado inside the spread by half a point. That makes the underdog the direction suggested by the score, but the margin is too fragile to justify a wager.

Arizona State's run defense supports picking the home winner. Colorado's rushing improvement and pass rush argue against confidently laying more than a field goal. Neither recent performance supplies a sufficiently dependable margin advantage at these prices. The winner selection remains Arizona State; the spread recommendation remains Pass.

Colorado Buffaloes vs Arizona St. Sun Devils total prediction

Pass on Over 49 (-110) and Under 49 (-110). The projected 45 points favor an Under scenario, with Arizona State limiting Colorado's rushing success and its own offense encountering resistance from the Buffaloes' pass rush.

The counterargument comes from Young and Mack, who each exceeded 100 rushing yards on Oct. 31. If both remain productive, sustained drives could push scoring beyond this forecast. Colorado's latest 27-point result also included overtime, so that final score needs context. A four-point gap between projection and total is not enough by itself to make Under 49 an official bet.

Colorado Buffaloes vs Arizona St. Sun Devils Projected Score & Betting Picks

The game forecast is Arizona State 24, Colorado 21. Arizona State's recent defensive work earns the deciding vote, with Mack's rushing production offering a plausible foundation for enough offense to win. The projection assumes the Sun Devils contain Colorado's ground game without completely shutting it down.

The strongest objection is Arizona State's offensive-line instability against a defense fresh off a five-sack game. If that matchup swings sharply toward Colorado, the Buffaloes can win outright. That risk keeps confidence low despite a definite winner selection. Both spread prices and both sides of the 49-point total remain passes. The single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
