By SportsJaw Editorial Team

The Detroit Lions will beat the Minnesota Vikings, 23-17, with Jared Goff's interception-free passing giving Detroit the offensive edge. Minnesota's league-low 12.3 points allowed per game and limited offensive touchdown production point toward a restrained scoring total. Under 46 (-112) is the strongest wager at the supplied SportsJaw price; Detroit -3.5 (+102) is a pass despite the projected Lions victory.

Minnesota Vikings vs Detroit Lions prediction and best bet

Detroit's advantage is its ability to score without relying on an interception to create an opportunity. Goff has 14 touchdown passes and no interceptions through six games, while the Lions average 30.7 points, second in the NFL behind Buffalo. That gives Detroit the stronger offensive foundation against an unbeaten opponent.

The best bet is Under 46 (-112). Minnesota combines the league's lowest scoring allowance with just four offensive touchdowns across its past five games. Those two facts favor a game in which Detroit wins below its season scoring average. The Lions' offensive production is substantial counterevidence, so this is a medium-confidence forecast rather than an overwhelming edge.

Minnesota Vikings outlook

Minnesota's defense gives its unbeaten record substance. Allowing 12.3 points per game leaves an opponent little room to waste possessions. Seven interceptions and a plus-7 turnover margin add another route to victory: Minnesota could disrupt Detroit's scoring and give its own offense a shorter field. Against Goff's interception-free start, that is a compelling contest between demonstrated strengths.

The concern is offensive touchdown production. Minnesota averages 1.5 offensive touchdowns per game, second-lowest in the league, and has scored only four over its past five games. Last week's 16-10 victory over Indianapolis illustrates how little scoring the Vikings have sometimes needed. Asking that formula to hold against Detroit's 30.7-point average is a more demanding proposition.

Friday's injury report offers some reassurance. Running back Aaron Jones Sr., tackle Brian O'Neill, guard Joe Huber and tight end Gavin Bartholomew received no game status and are expected to be available. Safety Jay Ward is questionable with a knee injury.

Those expected offensive availabilities help Minnesota's prospects, but the touchdown shortage still weighs heavily. The Vikings' strongest route to an upset is another defensive performance that keeps modest offensive production sufficient. A takeaway could make that route considerably easier.

Detroit Lions outlook

Detroit has the clearer offensive case. Alongside his 14 touchdown passes and zero interceptions, Goff is averaging 298 passing yards per game. The combination matters here: Detroit has generated passing production without surrendering interceptions, while Minnesota's seven picks are part of its defensive success. Maintaining that ball security would put more pressure on the Vikings to score through their own offense.

The Lions have allowed an average of 19 points during their two-game winning streak. Their latest result, a 20-17 win over Green Bay, also shows a Detroit victory need not require 30 points. Two games are a limited defensive window, however, and should carry less weight than Minnesota's season-long scoring allowance.

Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown progressed from no practice participation Wednesday to full participation Thursday and Friday. Both received no game designation. Penei Sewell, Aidan Hutchinson and Alim McNeill also finished Friday as full participants without game designations.

The secondary is the concern. Kerby Joseph is out with a knee injury, and Roger McCreary is questionable with a foot injury. Those absences and uncertainties give Minnesota a possible opening. They also temper confidence in an Under that needs Detroit to keep the Vikings' scoring manageable.

Key matchup factors

Turnovers could change both markets quickly. A Minnesota interception would challenge the forecast's central assumption that Detroit can sustain its offensive advantage. A short field could also add points without requiring either offense to move the length of the field.

SportsJaw's Oct. 31 consensus update favors Detroit on the spread, with 374 of 603 combined consensus selections and a 62% blended share. Those counts combine a modeled sportsbook sample with SportsJaw participation; they are not observed sportsbook ticket totals. The community component separately favors Detroit at 67%. That backing describes preference, not Detroit's probability of winning or covering. Minnesota's defensive results remain the stronger reason to hesitate over the favorite.

Minnesota Vikings vs Detroit Lions spread prediction

Pass on Detroit -3.5 (+102) and Minnesota +3.5 (-113). The projected six-point Detroit victory would cover, but it leaves only 2.5 points between the forecast margin and the spread. Minnesota's scoring defense and turnover margin make that cushion fragile.

Detroit's offensive edge keeps Minnesota from becoming the preferred wager simply because the Vikings receive more than a field goal. The Lions are the winner selection; the spread decision is more cautious. Neither side offers as persuasive a matchup case at its supplied price as the Under.

Minnesota Vikings vs Detroit Lions total prediction

Under 46 (-112) is the recommendation, with Over 46 priced at -104. The scoring case rests on Minnesota's 12.3 points allowed per game and its limited offensive touchdown production. Detroit's recent 19-point defensive average offers additional, smaller-sample support.

The main risk is that Goff and Detroit's available offensive personnel overcome Minnesota's defense while Joseph's absence helps the Vikings score. Turnovers could also inflate the total. The projected 40 points leave six points below the line, but the bet rests on those matchup factors, not the projected sum alone.

Minnesota Vikings vs Detroit Lions Projected Score & Betting Picks

Game forecast: Detroit Lions 23, Minnesota Vikings 17. Detroit's passing production and Goff's ball security earn the winner selection, while Minnesota's scoring defense pulls the Lions' projection below their season average. Minnesota's offensive touchdown shortage keeps its projected contribution modest.

The strongest counterargument is an unbeaten Vikings team that has allowed only 12.3 points per game and owns a plus-7 turnover margin. Detroit's secondary injuries add uncertainty on the other side of the ball. Confidence is medium. Pass on both supplied spread sides; Under 46 (-112) is the single official SportsJaw wager, supported by Minnesota's defensive strength and offensive limitations.
