Charlotte Hornets vs Detroit Pistons Predictions Today

Game time: October 28, 2026 at 7:00 PM ET

Venue: Little Caesars Arena — Detroit, MI

Article updated Oct 28, 7:26 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

The Detroit Pistons will beat the Charlotte Hornets, with a projected score of Detroit 111, Charlotte 105. Cade Cunningham’s scoring and passing, alongside Duncan Robinson’s early production, give Detroit the strongest matchup argument. Charlotte counters with Brandon Miller’s scoring surge and an extra day between games. With Jalen Duren out, neither Detroit -6.5 (-110) nor the 215.5 total offers a compelling wager.

Charlotte Hornets vs Detroit Pistons prediction and best bet

Detroit gets the pick, but the official best bet is Pass. Cunningham’s documented production as both a scorer and facilitator makes him the centerpiece of the forecast. His eight assists per game in Detroit’s three-game statistical snapshot offer a reason to favor an offense with multiple ways to finish possessions.

Charlotte presents a serious challenge. Miller scored 34 and 39 points in his two most recent games, and the Hornets beat Washington without three players who remain out for this matchup. Detroit must also manage Duren’s absence and consecutive game nights. Those counterarguments keep confidence low and make laying 6.5 points less attractive than simply picking the Pistons to win.

Charlotte Hornets outlook

Miller supplies Charlotte’s strongest reason for optimism. His four-game season snapshot shows 24.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. More immediately, he followed 34 points against Miami on October 24 with 39 against Washington on October 26. Those performances make another productive scoring night a reasonable expectation, although projecting a third straight game above 30 would be aggressive.

Naz Reid contributed 18 points and 12 rebounds in the Washington victory. That performance gives Charlotte a second concrete source of encouragement. With Duren unavailable, Reid’s rebounding is particularly relevant to the forecast, though one double-double alone is no guarantee that Charlotte will control the boards.

The injury list remains substantial. Coby White is out with a left calf strain, Kon Knueppel with a left hamstring strain and Grant Williams with a right hamstring strain. Kylan Boswell is also listed out with a knee injury. White, Knueppel and Williams all missed the Washington win.

That result matters because Charlotte has already succeeded with those three absences. Coach Charles Lee reported rehabilitation progress on October 26 without offering a return timetable. For this game, the case for Charlotte rests on the production already demonstrated by Miller and Reid, rather than an anticipated return.

Detroit Pistons outlook

Cunningham’s combination of scoring and distribution drives the Detroit forecast. His three-game snapshot lists 21.3 points and 8.0 assists per game. That window precedes the October 27 loss at New York, so it should not be read as his updated average entering this game. At Philadelphia on October 25, he recorded 26 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in a 106-93 victory.

There is also a larger sample behind his playmaking: the 2025-26 reference table lists 23.9 points and 9.9 assists across 64 games. Those are last season’s numbers, but they strengthen the argument that Detroit can rely on him to generate offense beyond his own scoring.

Robinson averaged 19.7 points in the same three-game snapshot and scored 21 at Philadelphia. His contribution gives the forecast a second scoring option without assuming anything about his shooting efficiency.

Duren is out with a strained right hamstring and is expected to miss at least two weeks. Isaiah Joe missed the New York game with a right hip contusion and is listed day-to-day. Ausar Thompson scored 11 points in 25 minutes that night despite a right ankle sprain; his status warrants attention. Detroit’s quick turnaround adds another complication to an already unsettled personnel picture.

Key matchup factors

The scheduling difference favors Charlotte: its last game was October 26, while Detroit played in New York on October 27. That extra day between games helps balance the forecast against Cunningham’s playmaking. Duren’s absence also makes Reid’s recent rebounding contribution more significant, although the evidence stops short of projecting an automatic interior advantage.

SportsJaw’s October 28 consensus update at 00:32 UTC shows Charlotte +6.5 (-110) leading member spread picks at 71% and qualified handicapper picks at 67%. Both groups show 100% for Over 215.5 (-110). These are separate pick preferences, not win probabilities or sportsbook betting shares. They favor a competitive, higher-scoring game, but do not supply an independent measure of value.

Charlotte Hornets vs Detroit Pistons spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Charlotte Hornets +6.5 (-110) and Detroit Pistons -6.5 (-110). The projected six-point Detroit victory falls on Charlotte’s side of the spread, but a half-point difference between a forecast and the line is too slender for a confident wager.

Miller’s recent scoring, Charlotte’s longer break and Duren’s absence all argue against laying the points. Charlotte’s own missing personnel pulls the other way. Cunningham’s passing and Robinson’s scoring could still produce a wider Detroit win, leaving neither spread side with a persuasive edge at -110.

Charlotte Hornets vs Detroit Pistons total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 215.5 (-110) and Under 215.5 (-110). The projected 216 points finish just half a point above the line. Miller’s recent output and Detroit’s documented scoring options make that forecast plausible, but the margin offers little protection against an ordinary fluctuation in scoring.

Charlotte’s missing players and Detroit’s uncertain rotation complicate the scoring outlook. There are no supported current pace or team efficiency figures here to strengthen either direction. The unanimous Over preference within the two SportsJaw groups is noteworthy, but it is not enough to justify paying -110.

Charlotte Hornets vs Detroit Pistons projected score

Game forecast: Detroit Pistons 111, Charlotte Hornets 105. Cunningham’s established scoring and assist production, supported by Robinson’s early contributions, gives Detroit a slight advantage in the final assessment. This is a low-confidence forecast because several meaningful factors favor Charlotte.

The strongest counterargument combines Miller’s 73 points over his last two games with Charlotte’s extra recovery time and Detroit’s missing center. Reid’s Washington performance adds another plausible route to a Hornets win or a close finish. Detroit remains the winner selection, but neither the spread nor total clears the threshold for a bet. The single official SportsJaw wager is Pass.
