Utah Running Utes vs Colorado Buffaloes Predictions October 17, 2026

Game time: October 17, 2026 at 10:15 PM ET

Venue: Folsom Field — Boulder, CO

Article updated Oct 13, 12:48 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Utah will beat Colorado, with a projected score of Utah 34, Colorado 13. The strongest matchup advantage is Utah’s run defense against a Buffaloes offense that has scored 27 points across three consecutive losses. Utah’s productive quarterback and running back combination supports an actionable spread wager on Utah -15.5 (-110). The total of 50 is a Pass.

Utah Running Utes vs Colorado Buffaloes prediction and best bet

Utah -15.5 (-110) is the best bet for this October 17, 2026 college football matchup. Utah’s offensive balance gives it multiple ways to build a lead, while Colorado enters with a quarterback decision still unsettled. The forecast calls for Utah to win by 21 points, enough to cover the supplied spread.

The edge warrants medium confidence. Colorado has had a bye week to prepare and has a productive receiving option in Joseph Williams. Those are meaningful reasons to resist treating a road favorite as automatic, but Utah’s combination of efficient passing, recent rushing production and run defense makes the stronger case.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Game time: October 17, 2026, at 8:15 p.m. MT, according to Utah’s October 12 matchup preview.

Venue: Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado.

Broadcast: ESPN.

Records: Utah is 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Big 12 play. Colorado is 2-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play, with three consecutive losses.

Quarterbacks: Devon Dampier leads Utah’s offense. Denver Sports reported on October 12 that Colorado’s choice remained unresolved among Isaac Wilson, Julian Lewis and Kaneal Sweetwyne.

SportsJaw odds: Utah moneyline -750; Colorado moneyline +534. Spread: Utah -15.5 (-110), Colorado +15.5 (-110). Total: Over 50 (-110), Under 50 (-110).

Utah Running Utes outlook

Utah averages 502.0 total yards and 42.8 points per game. Dampier ranks second in the Big 12 in passing efficiency at 171.6 and completion rate at 71.8%. Through five games, his 12 passing touchdowns against two interceptions offer a concrete reason to trust the passing attack.

Wayshawn Parker gives that offense a second dependable source of production. He followed 174 rushing yards at Iowa State with 171 against Kansas and has 11 total touchdowns, seven rushing and four receiving. His career-long 90-yard touchdown against Kansas illustrates the risk of allowing him a clean path through the defense.

The October 10 win over Kansas also showed Utah’s receiving depth. Ricky Johnson caught all five targets for a career-best 104 yards, while Braden Pegan leads the team through five games with 24 receptions, 336 yards and four touchdowns. Colorado’s defensive plan must account for more than Parker.

Utah won that game 41-24, with Dampier contributing 238 passing yards, 71 rushing yards and four total touchdowns. The 24 points conceded are a useful restraint on expectations: a season scoring allowance of 13.0 points per game should not become a promise that Colorado will struggle on every possession.

Colorado Buffaloes outlook

Joseph Williams gives Colorado its clearest offensive foundation. Through five games, he leads the Buffaloes with 32 catches, 454 yards and five touchdowns. He caught a touchdown in four consecutive games through October 3, including a 10-catch, 93-yard performance against Texas Tech.

The larger offensive picture is less encouraging. Colorado lost that game 29-7, completing a three-game stretch with just 27 total points. Wilson threw for 290 yards and a touchdown against Texas Tech, but his three interceptions included a fourth-quarter end-zone pick-six. Yardage alone did not translate into enough scoring.

There is a more competitive reading of that defeat: The Gazette reported that Colorado remained within one score with 7:10 left. The Buffaloes now return from a bye, giving them additional preparation time. Neither fact guarantees improvement, but both matter when weighing a spread greater than two touchdowns.

Receiver Hykeem Williams had not played in 2026 because of injury, according to Denver Sports’ October 12 report. His situation adds uncertainty to the receiving options around Joseph Williams, without justifying a definitive claim about his availability for the rest of the season.

Key matchup factors

Utah’s run defense is the most important constraint on Colorado’s game plan. The Utes allow 78.8 rushing yards per game and 2.86 yards per carry. If that performance carries into Boulder, Colorado may need its unsettled quarterback position to supply a larger share of the offense.

Turnovers could then determine whether Utah merely wins or covers. Utah has eight takeaways, including six interceptions. Colorado can improve its chances by protecting possessions and finding Joseph Williams without forcing throws. Another game with several interceptions would make the underdog’s task substantially harder.

Utah’s own offensive balance supports the favorite even without assuming a turnover advantage. Dampier’s passing efficiency and Parker’s recent rushing output suggest different routes to sustained scoring. That flexibility carries more weight in this forecast than the series history.

Utah Running Utes vs Colorado Buffaloes spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Utah Running Utes -15.5 (-110). The projected 21-point margin clears the line by 5.5 points. Utah’s offensive production and Colorado’s recent scoring difficulties provide the central argument for laying the points.

Colorado +15.5 (-110) has a credible case built around rest, home field and its ability to stay competitive deep into the Texas Tech game. Still, covering requires a more productive finish than Colorado managed there. Utah is the preferred spread side, with medium confidence rather than an overwhelming edge.

Utah Running Utes vs Colorado Buffaloes total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 50 (-110) and Under 50 (-110). The projected score adds to 47, giving the forecast an Under tendency, but a three-point cushion is too small for an official total wager here.

Colorado’s scoring slump favors the Under, while Utah’s 42.8-point scoring average creates a substantial counterweight. Turnovers could stop drives or hand an offense a short field. With Colorado’s quarterback choice unresolved, the likely scoring range is less convincing than Utah’s advantage against the spread.

Utah Running Utes vs Colorado Buffaloes projected score

Game forecast: Utah Running Utes 34, Colorado Buffaloes 13. Utah’s balanced attack and ability to limit rushing production should put Colorado under sustained pressure to answer through the air.

The strongest counterargument is a rested Colorado offense getting efficient quarterback play alongside Joseph Williams’ established production. That possibility keeps confidence at medium. The single official SportsJaw wager is spread: Utah Running Utes -15.5 (-110). The total of 50 remains a Pass.
