Fresno St. Bulldogs vs San Diego St. Aztecs Predictions October 17, 2026

Game time: October 17, 2026 at 10:30 PM ET

Venue: Snapdragon Stadium — San Diego, CA

Article updated Oct 12, 9:58 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Fresno State will beat San Diego State, with a projected score of Bulldogs 27, Aztecs 17. Fresno State’s productive, turnover-free offense against Boise State gives it the stronger recent showing, while San Diego State struggled to sustain offense at Oregon State. Neither Fresno State -8.5 nor the 45.5 total offers a convincing betting edge at the supplied prices, making the official wager Pass.

Fresno St. Bulldogs vs San Diego St. Aztecs prediction and best bet

Fresno State is the pick because its latest performance showed more ways to produce touchdowns. The Bulldogs scored through explosive passes and a sustained fourth-quarter drive against Boise State. San Diego State’s offense offered much less against Oregon State, with a kickoff return accounting for one of its two touchdowns.

That is a meaningful advantage for the forecast, but Fresno State’s defense makes an 8.5-point spread uncomfortable. The Bulldogs surrendered 512 yards in their latest game, leaving a credible route for the Aztecs to stay within the number. The prediction is Fresno State 27, San Diego State 17, with medium confidence. The best betting decision is Pass.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Game time: Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. PT.

Venue: Snapdragon Stadium.

Broadcast: CBS Sports Network.

Records: Fresno State enters this 2026 college football matchup at 4-2 overall and 1-1 in Pac-12 play. San Diego State is 2-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Both lost on October 10.

SportsJaw spread: Fresno State -8.5 (-110); San Diego State +8.5 (-110).

SportsJaw total: Over 45.5 (-110); Under 45.5 (-110). Moneyline: Fresno State -340; San Diego State +270.

Fresno St. Bulldogs outlook

Fresno State lost 38-31 at home to No. 23 Boise State on October 10, but quarterback Jayden Mandal supplied encouraging production. He completed 19 of 33 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns and added an eight-yard rushing touchdown. The Bulldogs finished with 346 total yards and no turnovers.

Ezekiel Avit caught a 59-yard touchdown from Khristian Martin and a 10-yard touchdown from Mandal. Fresno State also assembled an 11-play, 73-yard fourth-quarter touchdown drive, including Mandal’s 15-yard scoring pass to Gavin Correia on third-and-15. Those sequences showed an offense capable of scoring through more than one route.

Possession was the weakness. Boise State held the ball for nearly 39 minutes while gaining 512 yards. Fresno State’s scoring kept the final margin close, but that defensive workload is the main reason to resist treating the Bulldogs as a comfortable favorite.

San Diego St. Aztecs outlook

San Diego State’s 66-14 loss at Oregon State exposed problems on both sides of the ball. The Aztecs were outgained 651-147, finishing with 91 passing yards and 56 rushing yards. Jayden Denegal and Draiden Trudeau combined to complete 9 of 27 passes.

Denegal enters this matchup with 787 passing yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions, completing 76 of 141 attempts. Nathan Acevedo leads the team with 16 receptions for 177 yards and two touchdowns through six games. The forecast requires some offensive improvement from the Aztecs, but those numbers temper expectations for a major scoring rebound.

Running back Lucky Sutton missed the October 3 Texas State game and October 10 Oregon State game after leaving the September 26 Toledo game early. His availability for Fresno State remains uncertain. Javion Kinnard returned at Oregon State and rushed 11 times for 43 yards.

Sione Hala leads the Pac-12 with 61 tackles, and Tano Letuli ranks second with 49. Those individual totals identify prominent contributors; they do not erase the defense’s difficult performance last week.

Key matchup factors

The central question is whether Fresno State can translate its offensive advantage into enough possessions to separate. Its latest touchdown drives make that plausible, but another game spent defending long series would reduce its opportunities. San Diego State has a route to a competitive finish if it can keep the Bulldogs’ offense off the field.

Special teams add uncertainty. Jaylon Hawkins returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown at Oregon State, his third kickoff-return score in six games. That gives San Diego State a demonstrated scoring threat beyond its offense, although another return touchdown should not be assumed.

The teams faced different opponents last week, so their yardage and scoring gaps are directional evidence rather than a direct measure of this matchup. This is their 64th meeting, with San Diego State leading the series 32-27-4. That history supplies context, but the current offensive performances carry more weight in the forecast.

Fresno St. Bulldogs vs San Diego St. Aztecs spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Fresno State -8.5 (-110) and San Diego State +8.5 (-110). The projected 10-point Bulldogs victory clears the favorite’s spread by only 1.5 points. That is a thin margin given Fresno State’s defensive performance against Boise State.

Taking the Aztecs requires confidence that their offense can recover enough to keep this close. Their latest passing performance makes that difficult. Fresno State is the preferred winner, but neither side offers enough separation between the forecast and the supplied line to justify a wager.

Fresno St. Bulldogs vs San Diego St. Aztecs total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 45.5 (-110) and Under 45.5 (-110). San Diego State’s offensive struggles favor a lower score, while both teams’ latest defensive performances create a credible path to the Over.

The projected 44 points fall 1.5 points below the total. That small Under lean is vulnerable to an explosive touchdown or another special-teams score. Fresno State’s recent scoring supports a productive afternoon for the favorite, but San Diego State’s offensive contribution is too uncertain to make either total direction the official bet.

Fresno St. Bulldogs vs San Diego St. Aztecs projected score

Game forecast: Fresno State 27, San Diego State 17. The Bulldogs’ combination of passing touchdowns, a quarterback rushing score and a sustained late drive gives them the stronger offensive case. The strongest counterargument is their defense, which struggled to get Boise State off the field.

Confidence is medium for the outright winner. The forecast favors Fresno State, but the projected margin and total sit close to the betting lines. Both markets remain a Pass, and the single official SportsJaw wager is Pass.
