Venue: Memorial Stadium (Clemson, SC) — Clemson, SC

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Virginia Tech will beat Clemson 27-24 in our forecast for Oct. 24, with Ethan Grunkemeyer’s productive passing connection with Que’Sean Brown providing the strongest reason to favor the Hokies. Clemson’s latest defensive performance makes this a low-confidence call. Neither Virginia Tech -1.5 nor the 49.5-point total offers a convincing betting edge at the supplied prices. The official SportsJaw recommendation is Pass.

Virginia Tech Hokies vs Clemson Tigers prediction and best bet

Virginia Tech gets the pick because its latest passing performance offers a promising way to challenge Clemson. Grunkemeyer threw three touchdown passes against Georgia Tech, and Brown accounted for 182 receiving yards. That connection gives the Hokies a plausible route to the decisive scoring plays in a close game.

The best betting decision is Pass. Clemson’s defensive dominance against Charleston Southern is a meaningful counterargument, even though it came against a different opponent. One recent game for each team leaves a fragile edge: enough to choose Virginia Tech as the winner, but too little to justify paying for either side or total.

Virginia Tech Hokies outlook

Virginia Tech beat Georgia Tech 34-24 on Oct. 17, producing 409 yards with 250 passing and 159 rushing. Grunkemeyer completed 15 of 22 passes and added a 20-yard rushing touchdown to his three passing scores. His contribution in both phases is the most persuasive feature of that performance for this forecast.

Brown caught six passes for 182 yards and a touchdown, accounting for most of the Hokies’ receiving yardage. That concentration makes limiting Brown an obvious priority for Clemson. Jeffrey Overton Jr. supplied another productive option, rushing for 85 yards and catching a 26-yard touchdown.

Defensively, Aycen Stevens recorded 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss. Similar disruption would help Virginia Tech interrupt Clemson’s offense, although the Hokies also conceded 24 points against Georgia Tech. The forecast therefore asks their offense to carry a meaningful share of the result.

Clemson Tigers outlook

Clemson beat Charleston Southern 37-0 on Oct. 17. Its defense surrendered 76 total yards, made 13 tackles for loss and stopped all 11 third-down attempts. Those figures explain why picking against the Tigers requires caution: their latest opponent struggled both to gain ground and to extend drives.

The Tigers gained 438 yards, split between 231 rushing and 207 passing. Freshman quarterback Tait Reynolds passed for 127 yards and rushed for 40. Chris Johnson Jr. scored twice on the ground, and Christian Bentancur led Clemson with 74 receiving yards.

That combination suggests a potential winning approach built around rushing production and defensive stops. The question is how much of the Charleston Southern performance Clemson can reproduce against Virginia Tech. The shutout deserves weight without becoming an expectation for this matchup.

Key matchup factors

Clemson’s ability to disrupt early downs is the central matchup question. Tackles for loss could leave Grunkemeyer facing longer passing situations and make Brown easier to prioritize in coverage. Virginia Tech’s answer is to keep its rushing and receiving options involved so that the offense remains flexible.

The recent results also require different interpretations. Clemson’s larger yardage margin favors the Tigers’ case, while Virginia Tech’s passing efficiency favors the Hokies’ scoring prospects. These were separate games against separate opponents, so neither result supplies a direct comparison. That uncertainty keeps confidence low despite a clear editorial pick.

Virginia Tech Hokies vs Clemson Tigers spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Virginia Tech -1.5 (-105) and Clemson +1.5 (-115). The projected three-point Virginia Tech victory would cover -1.5, which requires a win by at least two points. It leaves only 1.5 points between the forecast margin and the spread.

That small cushion is vulnerable to an ordinary forecasting error. Clemson’s defensive showing gives the home side a credible winning case, but it also falls short of making +1.5 an attractive wager on its own. The winner selection favors Virginia Tech; the spread assessment remains Pass.

Virginia Tech Hokies vs Clemson Tigers total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 49.5 (-112) and Under 49.5 (-108). The projected 51 points sit slightly above the line, giving the forecast an Over direction without a sufficient margin to recommend it.

Both offenses scored at least 34 points in their latest games, but adding those outputs together would overlook the defenses and different opposition. Clemson’s recent stops offer a plausible lower-scoring scenario, while Virginia Tech’s passing production supports the higher one. Neither case is strong enough at these prices.

Virginia Tech Hokies vs Clemson Tigers projected score

Projected score: Virginia Tech Hokies 27, Clemson Tigers 24. The Hokies get the narrow call through Grunkemeyer’s passing production and the complementary contributions of Brown and Overton. Clemson’s disruptive defense is the strongest counterargument and could swing the result if it repeatedly puts Virginia Tech behind schedule.

Confidence: Low. This is a close forecast drawn from recent performances with limited comparative depth. The projected winner remains Virginia Tech, both market recommendations remain Pass, and the single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
