Hawaii Rainbows vs Northern Illinois Huskies Predictions October 24, 2026

Game time: October 24, 2026 at 3:30 PM ET

Venue: Huskie Stadium — Dekalb, IL

Article updated Oct 19, 8:39 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Hawaii Rainbows will beat Northern Illinois Huskies 24-21 in our forecast for Oct. 24, with NIU’s defensive struggles giving Hawaii the narrow edge despite its own scoring problems. Micah Alejado’s recent passing production offers a route to exploit that vulnerability, but the supplied prices leave neither market with a convincing advantage. Hawaii -4.5 and the total of 46 are both passes.

Hawaii Rainbows vs Northern Illinois Huskies prediction and best bet

Hawaii gets the pick in this 2026 college football matchup because Northern Illinois enters after allowing 510 yards at Wyoming. Alejado offers a plausible way for the Rainbows to capitalize, having thrown for 250 yards against New Mexico. The projected result is Hawaii 24, Northern Illinois 21.

The best betting decision is Pass. Hawaii’s four-game losing streak makes a road favorite difficult to trust, while NIU showed enough offensive production last week to threaten an upset. A narrow Hawaii victory is the forecast, but neither side of the spread offers a compelling wager.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Game time: Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. Hawaii time, according to Hawaii Sports Radio Network’s Oct. 18 matchup report.

Records and streaks: Northern Illinois is 0-6 overall and 0-2 in Mountain West play. Hawaii has lost four straight. Both teams are seeking their first conference victory.

SportsJaw odds: Hawaii Rainbows -4.5 (-110); Northern Illinois Huskies +4.5 (-110). Moneyline: Hawaii Rainbows -195; Northern Illinois Huskies +165. Total: Over 47.5 (-108); Under 47.5 (-110).

SportsJaw total: Over 46 (-110); Under 46 (-110).

Hawaii Rainbows outlook

Hawaii’s 21-10 loss to New Mexico on Oct. 17 captures the tension in this forecast. Alejado completed 23 of 40 passes for 250 yards, one touchdown and one interception. There was passing production, but the final score leaves a substantial question about how much scoring to expect against NIU.

Titan Lacaden supplied seven catches for 41 yards and a touchdown for a second straight game. That gives Hawaii a recently productive receiving option, although his modest yardage suggests caution about treating those catches as evidence of an explosive attack.

The Rainbows’ path to the projected win requires more scoring from their passing output. NIU’s latest defensive performance makes improvement plausible. Hawaii’s losing streak keeps that expectation modest, and projecting 24 points is an editorial judgment about this matchup rather than an extension of last week’s result.

Northern Illinois Huskies outlook

Northern Illinois lost 41-23 at Wyoming on Oct. 17, but its offense produced 392 yards. Telly Johnson Jr. led the most encouraging part of that performance, rushing for a season-high 139 yards and a touchdown. It was his third rushing touchdown in three games.

Taron Dickens completed 24 of 44 passes for 216 yards and a touchdown. DeAree Rogers caught 11 passes for 89 yards, tying his season high in receptions. Those contributions give the Huskies more than one plausible route to challenge Hawaii.

Defense is the larger concern. Wyoming gained 314 rushing yards within its 510-yard total. That result weighs against picking NIU to win, even though one opponent’s rushing success should not be treated as a prediction of Hawaii’s production.

Key matchup factors

The central question is how much of NIU’s defensive trouble carries into a different matchup. Hawaii’s recent passing output and Wyoming’s rushing success attack different areas. Together they suggest an opportunity for the Rainbows, but they do not guarantee that Hawaii can reproduce Wyoming’s offensive performance.

Johnson is the strongest counterargument to the Hawaii pick. Another productive rushing game could give NIU an alternative to relying heavily on Dickens’ passing. With both teams still chasing a conference win, the forecast gives more weight to those individual offensive contributions and the latest defensive result than to either team’s losing record alone.

Hawaii Rainbows vs Northern Illinois Huskies spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Hawaii -4.5 (-108) and Northern Illinois +4.5 (-112). The projected three-point Hawaii win falls inside NIU’s spread, so the score forecast favors the underdog against the number.

That small projected cushion is too fragile to turn into an official NIU wager at -112. The Huskies’ defensive problems create room for a wider defeat. Hawaii, meanwhile, needs a meaningful scoring improvement just to reach the projected result. Neither price compensates convincingly for the uncertainty.

Hawaii Rainbows vs Northern Illinois Huskies total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 46 (-110) and Under 46 (-110). The projected 45 points sit only one point below the supplied total, leaving little separation between the forecast and the line.

NIU’s latest game featured 64 combined points, while Hawaii’s featured 31. Those contrasting results frame the uncertainty without establishing a scoring trend. NIU’s defensive vulnerability argues against trusting the Under, while Hawaii’s recent 10-point performance makes the Over equally uncomfortable.

Hawaii Rainbows vs Northern Illinois Huskies projected score

Game forecast: Hawaii Rainbows 24, Northern Illinois Huskies 21. Hawaii earns the narrow pick through Alejado’s passing production and NIU’s defensive vulnerability. Johnson’s recent rushing success is the strongest reason the Huskies could overturn that call.

Confidence is low. Hawaii must improve its scoring, and NIU has enough offensive contributors to keep the outcome uncertain. Both the spread and total remain passes. The single official SportsJaw wager is Pass.
