Akron Zips vs Kent St. Golden Flashes Predictions October 24, 2026

Game time: October 24, 2026 at 1:00 PM ET

Venue: Zoeller Field at Dix Stadium — Kent, OH

Article updated Oct 20, 8:32 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Kent St. Golden Flashes will beat Akron Zips 23-20 in our forecast for Oct. 24, 2026. Akron’s four interceptions against Miami are the strongest reason to favor Kent State, with Dru DeShields’ passing and rushing contributions adding to the case. Confidence is low, and neither Kent State -3 nor the 46.5 total presents enough value for an actionable wager.

Akron Zips vs Kent St. Golden Flashes prediction and best bet

Kent State gets a narrow edge because Akron’s most recent documented performance included costly mistakes at quarterback. The Zips lost 34-14 at Miami on Oct. 17, with Brayden Roggow throwing four interceptions. Another game with repeated giveaways would make an Akron road victory difficult.

DeShields’ contributions as a passer and runner offer a plausible route to a Kent State win, but his six-game statistics are not proof of a decisive advantage. The forecast is Kent State 23, Akron 20, with low confidence. The official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass: choosing the likely winner is easier here than finding a favorable wager.

Akron Zips outlook

Akron did produce scoring opportunities against Miami. Roggow opened the game with a six-yard touchdown pass to Marcel Williams. In the third quarter, Jordan Gant scored on a 10-yard run after Brandon Hills returned a kickoff to Miami’s 28-yard line. Those sequences show two ways the Zips found points: a touchdown connection through the air and a rushing finish following favorable field position.

The missed opportunity after an onside-kick recovery is particularly relevant. Akron recovered the kick with less than a minute remaining in the third quarter, only for the ensuing possession to end with Roggow’s third interception. Recovering an extra possession helped little when the offense immediately surrendered it.

Ball security is therefore the central question for Akron. Four interceptions in one game warrant concern, but they should not become an automatic expectation for the next opponent. A cleaner performance would materially improve the Zips’ chances in a matchup carrying a three-point spread.

Kent St. Golden Flashes outlook

Through six games entering Oct. 17, DeShields had completed 89 of 155 passes for 980 yards and four touchdowns. He also had 177 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 49 attempts. His rushing contribution gives Kent State another possible way to finish possessions, although these figures describe that six-game period rather than an updated total entering Akron.

Over the same span, Wayne Harris led Kent State with 27 catches for 368 yards and one touchdown. Da'Realyst Clark contributed 20 receptions for 253 yards and a touchdown. Their production identifies two established receiving options without suggesting that either has a verified matchup advantage against Akron’s coverage.

On defense, Rocco Nicholl recorded 28 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks through six games. Punter Jake Stoeckel averaged 43.15 yards across 26 punts, with 11 placed inside the opponent’s 20. His placement could matter if neither offense consistently finishes drives.

Key matchup factors

Possession quality matters more to this forecast than an assumption of offensive dominance. Akron’s Miami performance illustrates how scoring chances and giveaways can coexist. Kent State’s task is to capitalize if those mistakes recur; Akron’s opportunity is to make the Golden Flashes earn their points through longer drives.

Field position offers a second route to changing the game. Akron demonstrated the value of a strong kickoff return, while Kent State’s punting numbers suggest a potential tool for pushing an opponent back. Neither factor guarantees a scoring outcome, but both could carry extra weight in a close finish.

Akron Zips vs Kent St. Golden Flashes spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Kent St. Golden Flashes -3 (-106) and Akron Zips +3 (-110). The projected three-point Kent State victory would push either spread, leaving no forecasted cushion for a winning bet.

The strongest argument for laying the points is another turnover-heavy Akron performance. The strongest argument for taking them is that improved ball security could keep this game close or produce an upset. Neither scenario is compelling enough to pay the supplied price.

Akron Zips vs Kent St. Golden Flashes total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 46.5 (-108) and Under 46.5 (-112). The projected 43 points fall below the line, but that modest gap is too fragile to make the Under an official wager.

Turnovers can end promising drives, yet they can also create easy scoring chances for the opponent. Akron’s recent interceptions therefore do not point cleanly toward one total direction. DeShields’ earlier production and one Akron game leave too much uncertainty about the combined scoring pace.

Akron Zips vs Kent St. Golden Flashes projected score

Game forecast: Kent St. Golden Flashes 23, Akron Zips 20. Akron’s recent giveaways tilt the selection toward Kent State, while DeShields’ passing and rushing contributions give the Golden Flashes multiple ways to pursue that narrow win.

The strongest counterargument is straightforward: Akron can protect the ball better than it did against Miami. Low confidence reflects that possibility and the limited basis for comparing these teams. The spread and total are both passes, and the single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
