Utah State Aggies vs Texas State Bobcats Predictions October 24, 2026

Game time: October 24, 2026 at 7:30 PM ET

Venue: UFCU Stadium — San Marcos, TX

Article updated Oct 20, 12:07 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Texas State will beat Utah State, with a projected score of Texas State 38, Utah State 24. Torrance Burgess Jr.’s nationally leading rushing production gives the Bobcats the strongest matchup advantage entering October 24. The forecast favors Texas State with medium confidence, but neither the supplied Texas State -12.5 spread nor the 61-point total offers a compelling wager. The official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.

Utah State Aggies vs Texas State Bobcats prediction and best bet

Texas State gets the pick because its rushing success extends beyond one spectacular game. Burgess led FBS in rushing yards per game and yards per carry through seven weeks, giving the Bobcats a sustained offensive strength behind their latest breakout. That carries more weight in this forecast than either team’s overall record.

Utah State’s receiving production and defensive response to turnovers offer reasons to expect resistance. The distinction is the margin: Texas State can be the more likely winner without being an attractive bet to cover 12.5 points. The best betting decision is Pass, with the spread and total evaluated separately below.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Game time: Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. Mountain Time, according to Utah State Athletics’ October 19 preview.

Broadcast: CBS Sports Network.

Records: Utah State Aggies 2-4; Texas State Bobcats 3-3.

SportsJaw odds: Utah State Aggies +13.5 (-111); Texas State Bobcats -13.5 (-105). Moneyline: Utah State Aggies +400; Texas State Bobcats -525. Total: Over 60.5 (-105); Under 60.5 (-110).

Consensus: As of October 20 at 03:57 UTC, Texas State led the blended moneyline consensus at 78%, equivalent to 468 of 600 combined modeled selections. Those counts incorporate a modeled sportsbook sample and SportsJaw participation; they are not observed tickets or a member-pick tally. The spread was evenly divided, 300-300. Utah State +12.5 occupied the displayed leader field at 50%, which represents a tie.

Utah State Aggies outlook

Eli Wood supplies Utah State’s clearest offensive reason for optimism. Through six games, he averaged 6.0 catches and 78.7 receiving yards, both second in the Pac-12 in the October 19 team preview. His five receiving touchdowns also ranked second in the conference. That combination of regular involvement and scoring production makes him central to the Aggies’ chances of keeping pace.

Possession security is the larger concern. Utah State committed 13 turnovers through six games. Its defense allowed 30 points following 12 of those giveaways, averaging 2.50 points across those 12 situations. The distinction matters: that figure describes a specific set of possessions, rather than the defense’s overall scoring performance.

Linebacker Asher Cunningham earned Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week and Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week recognition after the October 9 Washington State game. That is a meaningful individual accomplishment, although it offers no direct measure of how Utah State will handle Burgess.

Texas State Bobcats outlook

Texas State beat Colorado State 66-27 on October 15, setting school records with 716 total yards and 503 rushing yards. Burgess carried 24 times for 224 yards and four touchdowns, while adding three catches for 52 yards. His receiving contribution gives that performance another dimension beyond the rushing total.

The season figures strengthen the case for trusting him again. Through seven weeks, Burgess averaged an FBS-leading 139.7 rushing yards per game and 7.76 yards per carry. His 838 rushing yards ranked second nationally. Those numbers are the strongest support for the winner selection because they cover more than the Colorado State result.

Quarterback Brad Jackson scored three rushing touchdowns in that win, and Jaylen Jenkins added another. Together with Burgess, they produced eight rushing touchdowns, tying Texas State’s FBS-era single-game record. Multiple scorers broaden the offensive threat, though repeating that exceptional output should not be the baseline expectation.

Key matchup factors

The main question is whether Utah State can force Texas State to win through something other than its most productive offensive weapon. Burgess’s efficiency makes the running game the logical foundation of the forecast. Utah State’s turnover history adds another concern: giving Texas State additional opportunities would make keeping pace more difficult.

Wood is the strongest counterweight, but his production alone cannot tell us how the entire Aggies offense will perform. Likewise, Utah State’s success limiting points after certain turnovers should not be stretched into a prediction of strong run defense. These are reasons to temper the projected margin, rather than reverse the winner.

The 78% moneyline consensus reflects selection preference, not a measured win probability or confidence rating. Its contrast with the tied spread consensus illustrates the difference between choosing Texas State to win and choosing it to cover.

Utah State Aggies vs Texas State Bobcats spread prediction

Pass on Texas State -12.5 (-110) and Utah State +12.5 (-110). The projected 14-point victory places Texas State just beyond the spread, but a 1.5-point cushion is too narrow to turn this score estimate into an official play.

Burgess’s production makes a comfortable Bobcats win plausible. Wood gives Utah State a credible scoring contributor who could keep the final margin closer. Neither team has a demonstrated pricing advantage here, and the even consensus supplies no additional reason to take a side.

Utah State Aggies vs Texas State Bobcats total prediction

Pass on Over 61 (-110) and Under 61 (-110). The projected score totals 62, only one point above the line. Texas State’s offensive ceiling favors considering the Over, but an exceptional 66-point performance against a different opponent is an uncertain foundation for that wager.

The Under is no stronger. Utah State’s post-turnover defensive figures cover limited situations and should not stand in for a full assessment of scoring prevention. With the projection so close to 61, neither direction earns a recommendation.

Utah State Aggies vs Texas State Bobcats projected score

Game forecast: Texas State 38, Utah State 24. Confidence: medium. Burgess’s sustained national production and Texas State’s recent offensive performance support a clear winner selection. Wood’s receiving output is the strongest counterargument to expecting a comfortable margin.

The score is an editorial projection, with greater conviction in the winner than in the precise margin or total. Both projected betting outcomes sit close to the supplied lines. The single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
