Early numbers need context
Minnesota visits Washington on Saturday, Sept. 26, in the Huskies’ Big Ten opener of the 2026 college football season. Both schools’ official previews confirm the matchup, but their performance snapshots cover only the first two games, before their Sept. 19 contests.
Washington was 2-0 following home victories over Washington State and Utah State. The Huskies recorded six takeaways and committed no turnovers during that stretch. They also stopped Washington State on all 11 third-down attempts in the opener.
Those results give Washington an encouraging starting point. Still, one game’s third-down performance and two games of turnover results do not establish how reliably those advantages will carry into the Minnesota matchup.
Lindsey supplies a counterpoint
Minnesota entered Sept. 19 at 1-1 after losing 38-13 to Mississippi State. Through two games, quarterback Drake Lindsey completed 50 of 72 passes for 543 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.
Against Mississippi State, Lindsey completed 31 passes for 279 yards on a career-high 48 attempts. His interception-free start offers a counterpoint to Washington’s takeaways, although it does not establish that Minnesota can avoid turnovers or keep the score close.
Washington quarterback Demond Williams reached 1,010 career rushing yards against Utah State. That career production adds context to his rushing ability, but it cannot establish Washington’s expected scoring output here.
